Dior To Open Their Biggest Flagship Store In Seoul

by Eliza Florendo

Dior ain't afraid to go big. This weekend, Dior's largest flagship store in Asia will be opening in Seoul, Korea, and it's a whopping six stories tall. So much Dior, so little time. I imagine seeing every item in there is much like seeing the Louvre inside and out. Though, Mary-Kate and Ashley did it in Passport to Paris, so why can't we?

Since Korea's luxury market is only booming, it's no surprise that Dior is coming to claim a spot. The boutique is situated in Seoul's luxury shopping area, Cheongdam, and its launch will be accompanied by an exhibition called “Esprit Dior” at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, according to WWD. The exhibit will feature original Dior designs, along with collaborations with other Korean artists. What's better than an event filled with fashion and art?

On Wednesday, Dior held a preview of the new store, with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton chairman Bernard Arnault making a quick stop, along with Dior's chief executive Sidney Toledano. Toledano believes that Korea is important to the growing market, and that this was the reason for building the stand-alone shop. Can't be late to the party.

The massive shop is an alternative to the traditional Dior section in department stores that offered the brand limited space. Toledano said, "We wanted to show all the products of Dior...And we needed space also to sell to the clients. VIP rooms and space where you could even do presentations,” according to WWD.

The boutique is planned to cater to VIP clients who shop and take a break simultaneously. Ones that need to be entertained, according to Toledano. Entertainment on the exterior was apparently important too, as French architect de Portzamparc designed the outside of the stores, while the inside was decked out by American architect Peter Marino. Inside, you'll find a VIP lounge with a Versailles theme, as well as a café on the fifth floor, complete with macarons and other pastries.

For a shopper like myself that likes to take my time while I browse, this sounds like the ultimate destination. Though, I'm not sure if I qualify as a VIP shopper, per se. The prospect of enjoying a pain au chocolat while fawning over Dior couture sure is nice, though.
