The 9 Most Romantic Episodes In 'Friends' History

by Kaitlin Reilly

Friendship (and coffee) may rule the lives of Monica, Phoebe, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, and Joey, but while pretty much every single episode of Friends gives us new friendship goals to fulfill, that's not the only reason why we watch. Friends is full of romantic moments, and any lifelong fan knows that certain episodes really give you all of the feels. We can chalk up these special romantic moments to the amazing, strong relationship between Monica and Chandler, the fiery will they-won't they dance of Ross and Rachel, and even other, less central couples who got some time in love's spotlight. While Friends will always be about friendship, that doesn't stop fans from 'shiping their favorite couples just as much as they 'ship the undying friendship between Chandler and Joey.

Of course, not every romantic moment on Friends involves two members of the six pals. There are plenty of beautiful episodes about the love between one of the core six and their outside significant others. (Yes, it's totally possible for the gang not to date one another — just look at Phoebe and Mike, or Joey and any of his many girlfriends.) Here are some of the most romantic episodes in Friends history.

1. "The One Where Ross Finds Out"

Ross finally learns that Rachel returned his feelings for him — even though he's now happy with his new girlfriend, Julie. Of course, that doesn't stop the two from making out after hours in Central Perk.

2. "The One With The Prom Video"

This episode is romantic because it shows just how much Ross loves Rachel — and for how long. After watching an old home movie from the '80s, Rachel learns that Ross had planned on taking her to prom when it seemed like her date was going to stand her up. That's all Rachel needs to know, as this reveal leads to one of the most epic Ross and Rachel kisses ever.

3. "The One Where Ross And Rachel... You Know"

Ross and Rachel have finally gotten together after seasons of romantic tension... and have sex in a planetarium. Is there anything more romantic than Rachel telling Ross he was "worth the wait"?

4. "The One With Chandler In A Box"

Overall, this is actually a pretty sad episode, because the central plot revolves around Joey and Chandler fighting over Kathy. Still, I can't help but be overwhelmed by feels when Kathy tells Chandler (who is still in the box) that she can't be with him because she won't get in the way of his friendship. As soon as she leaves, Joey releases Chandler and tells him to go get his girl. Aww!

5. "The One Where Joey Moves Out"

If Chandler didn't exist, Richard and Monica would totally be my Friends OTP. The pair telling Monica's parents (and Richard's best friends!) that they are dating is super sweet. Screw your ageism, they're in looooove!

6. "The One With All The Thanksgivings"

Monica has a turkey over her head and Chandler, the commitment-phobe, says that he loves her. That's true love.

7. "The One With The Proposal"

This episode just contains the single most romantic moment from all 10 seasons of Friends, no big deal. Monica and Chandler are crying, I'm crying... it's a whole tear-filled, sweet, lovely mess.

8. "The One With Phoebe's Wedding"

Phoebe and Mike finally tie the knot, and it's even better than anyone could have imagined. If Phoebe's vows (she has everything she's ever wanted in Mike!) don't make you tear up, you officially have no soul.

9. "The Last One"

SHE GOT OFF THE PLANE! A moment that will go down in Friends — and television — history.
