10 Geeky Desserts That Will Satisfy Both Your Inner Nerd And Your Sweet Tooth At The Same Time
It's time to unleash your inner nerd and whip out a few geeky dessert ideas, because we're just a few weeks away from the world's biggest, most talked about assembly of fantasy, sci-fi, and gamer geeks: Comic-Con 2015. People from around the galaxies will descend upon San Diego to show off their most elaborate costumes, and indulge in the local delicacy that is burritos filled with French fries. Comic-Con inevitably brings a host of exciting announcements, and with a Star Wars movie on the way at the end of this year, I expect that this year will not disappoint.
There's nothing I love more than food-puns and themed snacks. Get hyped (and a little sugar buzz) for Nerd Christmas with this list of the top 10 geekiest desserts on the Internet.
Mario Kart 64 Cake
This Mario Kart cart cake is a perfectly-molded tribute to my favorite Nintendo 64 game of all time. Apparently that makes me a wild woman, according to Dorkly, but I think I can live with that if it means I can still be reigning Mario Kart champion of everyone I know. Similarly, this cake is the reigning champion of gamer cakes.
Frosted Star Wars Cookies
Chow down on a steady diet of these Star Wars cookies decorated to look like a couple of jerks and Yoda. These Star Wars cookie cutters are available on Amazon, so you can get baking right away. May the force be with you!
Side note: I imagine if you deep fried a whatever-Yoda-is, he would taste a little like soft shell crab.
Second Generation iPod Nano Cookies
These life-sized cookie replicas of the second generation iPod Nano throw it back all the way to 2006, when Steve Jobs announced the “more vibrant” younger sibling of the original Nano, sporting fun new colors and more storage space (all the way up to 8GB). Binge-eat these cookies while you shout the lyrics to The Fray’s “How To Save A Life” and cry about Denny’s untimely demise on Grey’s Anatomy (am I right, ladies?).
Harry Potter And The Cupcake Party
Harry Potter was more than a book for most millenials. We grew up with that awkward bespectacled wizard. Conversations about J.K. Rowling’s magical universe can incite intense debates. I still have no idea how that nasty Lavender Brown got into Gryffindor, though she was nothing if not bold, I suppose… nasty, but bold.
Invite your friends over to be sorted into their respective Hogwarts houses, and then eat your house colors! Hopefully, you’ll have some Slytherin cupcakes left over to share amongst the rest of the group. Seriously though, Gryffindor forever!
iMac G3 Tea Cakes For #ThrowbackThursday
The iMac G3 was the first consumer-facing product that Apple introduced in the Jobs era. Once upon a time, early adopters of the all-Apple-everything movement had to be sure to save their Microsoft Office files in compatibility mode, otherwise they could never manage to open their files on any Windows machine, leading to gaping rifts on my high school newspaper staff.
I’m going to need some of these adorably nerdy cakes now as retribution for years of .docx-related anxiety.
Rainbow Google Cake
Check the colors on this ode to the first tech company to transcend its humble beginnings to become an industry-defining verb. Make this cake in September when Google will finally become “legal,” as it turns 18 years old.
QR Code Cake That Actually Works
Get out your phone and scan the QR code on this cake. Spoiler: It takes you straight to the photographer’s Flickr page. A cake is definitely a relevant place for shameless self-promotion. People don’t ever resent cake.
Adventure Time Cookies For The Cartoon Soul
If you don’t already know, Adventure Time is a goofball animated series on Cartoon Network. Adventure Time is set in a post-apocalyptic land of Ooo, and is heavily inspired by the Dungeons and Dragons universe.
The series touches on loads of important cultural issues like sexuality and gender identity, which is pretty amazing for a show that is often marketed to young children. Famous fans of Adventure Time include Neil Patrick Harris and Lena Dunham, who have both made cameos as voice actors on the show.
R2-D2 Wearing A Bow-Tie Cake
I saved this one for last, because this cake is everything. Everyone loves R-2, and everyone loves cake. This cake is the best of both worlds (plus a bow-tie).
