21 Happy LGBT Couples Kissing

by Eliza Castile

The political climate has never been more favorable for gay marriage than in the past few years, with an increasing number of states legalizing same-sex marriage as recently as this past January. Today, however, the Supreme Court became involved when it ruled that gay marriage bans are unconstitutional on a national level. Cue the celebrating, because this is truly a momentous occasion. As you've no doubt seen all over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr (oh god, stay away from Tumblr right now), people couldn't be happier with the decision. Although it may seem like LGBT rights have made huge strides in just the past decade, the fight for marriage equality has been a long one. As a young member of the LGBT community, it's difficult to understand just how unfathomable the current state of equality was in the era before the Stonewall Riots and the first pride flag was created. Although some have argued that the fight for marriage equality takes away from other, equally important LGBT fights like workplace discrimination and homeless LGBT youth, there's no denying that the SCOTUS decision will still have an enormous impact on the lives of LGBT Americans nationwide. And so, with that in mind, I believe a giant CONGRATULATIONS, AMERICA! is in order. Also, here are a bunch of same-sex couples kissing, because who doesn't want to celebrate news like that?

And, of course, our royal couple:

Congratulations, America! Now wedding season is five percent more likely to remind me how incredibly single I am, but I'm so happy I don't even care. Not that we need SCOTUS to tell us how to love each other, but you know what? It helps. It really, really helps.
