NeNe Leakes Hospitalized

by Kristie Rohwedder

Oh no! Real Housewives of Atlanta's NeNe Leakes was hospitalized. What happened? I need answers immediately. On Nov. 17, Leakes tweeted, "I have been very sick for the past couple of days." Hm. What's going on, NeNe? And on Nov. 18, the beloved and hilarious reality star posted a cryptic photo of herself in a hospital gown. The caption included the hashtag "blessedtobealive." WHAT?! WHAT'S GOING ON?! Okay. I totally respect Leakes's choice to be vague because, you know, privacy is a thing. I get it. But when I see that picture with that caption, my mind imagination goes into overdrive. I'm scared for you, NeNe!

Fortunately, Leakes understands that a pic like that will generate a lot of speculation and questions. So today, Leakes provided us with an update:

First and foremost, I so dearly love and appreciate each and every one of you for your concern and your prayers.

Late last week I wasn’t feeling well and was feeling a little short of breath. I know my body and I know when I should be concerned so I went to the hospital to get checked out.

After some routine tests I was diagnosed with blood clots in my lung. I’m told this happened to me because of the constant traveling around the country that I do for my job.

I’m thankful to be alive as the doctor advised me that most people don’t recognize the symptoms of blood clots and don’t go to the doctor and that’s when the big problems start happening.

Contrary to published reports I did not have a heart attack.

I am fortunate to have had a wonderful experience with the doctors and nurses who took care of me.

I’m blessed to be home with my wonderful Husband and family! Look who crawled in the hospital bed with me….

Damn! That's some serious stuff. So happy she's okay. I'm glad she got it checked out as soon as she sensed something was off. Health crap is so frightening, and I know I'm always tempted to ignore any weird symptoms. If you don't think about it, it'll go away, right? Nope. You're way off, Rohwedder. Way to trust those instincts, Leakes!

About a year ago, I took a trip to Urgent Care. For days, my throat felt like it was full of inflatable porcupines, and I decided it'd be in my best interest to seek out a medical professional. The doctor told me I had a mutant strain of strep throat. I had been wandering around the planet with a mutant strain of strep throat for days. The doctor said it was a good thing I didn't wait any longer to get antibiotics. Not sure what he meant by that, but it chilled me to the bone. As freaked out as I was, mutant strep throat pales in comparison to blood clots on a lung. I can only imagine the relief she felt when the doctors told her it was good that she noticed the symptoms when she did. And I can only imagine how scary and emotional all of it must've been. Eesh.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, NeNe!
