'Empire' Characters Should Be On Reality Shows

by Aramide Tinubu

It's no secret that most of us indulge in reality television, even if we don’t want to publicly admit it. From Keeping Up with the Kardashians to Survivor there are so many different shows to choose from today. Even celebrities themselves aren't immune to the hoopla surrounding reality television, and their presence makes it even more likely that us ‘regular folk’ will tune in. Next month, Empire stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard will be on Lip Sync Battle , the hit Spike TV show, competing against one another. Back in March, Jussie Smollett and Bryshere 'Yazz' Gray performed hit songs from the top rated series on American Idol.

Obviously, there is a ton of opportunity for crossovers between reality and scripted television. This got me thinking about the characters of Empire, and how they would fare in the world of reality television. The Lyons have more than enough personality to become fan favorites and take over reality television franchises. They certainly have enough gumption to win any of the competitions that they are thrown into.

From The Apprentice to Dancing with the Stars, the characters of Empire would take the world of reality television by storm. Here are some shows that they could definitely have a major presence on.

Lucious Lyon on Big Brother

Lucious could probably win Big Brother. The Lyon patriarch is amazingly charming and manipulative. He could easily form alliances in the Big Brother house, coning his housemates to stay on his side. If he's smart enough to build a hugely successful entertainment company, he would have no trouble with the various tasks on Big Brother. In order to win the competition, Lucious would have no issue throwing his housemates under the bus when they were no longer of any use to him. Basically, Lucious would be the ultimate Big Brother winner.

Cookie Lyon on The Bachelorette

If Cookie Lyon was the next Bachelorette, I would be glued to the screen. After finding closure with her ex-husband Lucious, and ending her fling with Malcolm, it would be amazing to see 25 eligible men competing for Cookie's heart. Since Cookie has no filter, it would be easy for her to weed out the unworthy suitors. From the epic dates to the meeting families, a season of The Bachelorette with Cookie would certainly be highly rated. Oh, and Porsha definitely needs to host the show.

Andre Lyon on The Amazing Race

After Andre and Rhonda have their baby, they should totally go on The Amazing Race together. The duo would be perfect for the grueling global challenge. They are both in tip-top shape, so the strenuous physical competitions would be a piece of cake for them. They are also both brilliant, so they would have no trouble outsmarting their competition to take home the $1 million dollar prize.

Rhonda Lyon on The Apprentice

I'm not sure why we all underestimate Rhonda, but she's super cutthroat and ruthless. Rhonda would be an excellent project manager, and she can buy and sell pretty much anything. Rhonda's best asset is the fact that she could fly under the radar for a bit without alerting her competition. She's extremely ambitious and smart, so her fellow candidates would soon learn that she's a force to be reckoned with.

Jamal Lyon as a judge on The Voice

Since Jamal has already taken over American Idol, the next logical choice for him would be a judge on The Voice. Like his mother, he has a knack for music production. It takes a great deal of talent to choose the right beats and songs for the different artists. Obviously, the winner of the competition would be on Jamal's team, and he could easily bring them into the fold at Empire Entertainment. Jamal's position on The Voice would be a win for him and a win for the company.

Hakeem Lyon on Dancing with the Stars

The youngest Lyon still seems to be having some trouble figuring out what his image is, but he needs to figure that if quickly if he wants a successful long-term career. As a rapper, we already know that he has impeccable rhythm. Having Hakeem compete on Dancing the Stars would be an amazing learning opportunity for him, while positioning him at the center of mainstream popular culture.

Porsha & Becky on Empire's Assistants

OK, this show doesn't exactly exist yet, but, if it did, I would totally watch it. Empire's Assistants could be as big as Keeping up with the Kardashians. Since the cameras would be following Becky and Porsha around, we would get a look into the inter-workings of Empire Entertainment while getting more information about our favorite assistants' personal lives. It would literally be a perfectly balanced reality television show.
