You Can Have Grilled Cheese Delivered???

by Eliza Castile

Sometimes it seems like the UK has everything. Universal healthcare, Tom Hiddleston, and soon, residents could have grilled cheese delivered to their doorstep , as long as all goes well for the Cheese Posties Kickstarter. Let's be real here: there is absolutely no way that Kickstarter is going to fail. I have witnessed multiple friends get drunk and cry about how much they love cheese, on separate occasions. I had a roommate in college who would frequently eat half a box of string cheese sticks in one sitting. National Cheese Lover's Day is a thing that exists. People really love cheese, OK?

I bring that up not to draw attention to how weird my social circle is, but to point out that although grilled cheese sandwiches are quite possibly the easiest food in the world to make, that doesn't mean there isn't a market ready and waiting for the "World's First Grilled Cheese Sandwich Subscription." Not does it have a punny name — "cheese postie" is a play on the ever-so-British term for grilled cheese, "cheese toastie" (lolz) — but also, it combines some of the greatest things known to humankind: cheese, bread, and food delivery.

According to Mashable, creators Dave Rotheroe and Danny Jennings met through Kickstarter, when Jennings donated to Rotheroe's subscription hot sauce service. For £3.99, Cheese Postie users will receive a different "mouth-watering melting combo made up of artisan breads, fine cheeses and condiments" every week, complete with a bag for toasting.

"It occurred to us that all the ingredients of a grilled cheese would fit pretty tidily through a letterbox alongside a teflon toasty bag," Rotheroe told Mashable, and with that, the greatest business idea of our generation was born.

The partners told Mashable that they have more than 20 different sandwich types so far, including gluten-free options. Some are more traditional than others, but you can't tell me a marscapone and Nutella sandwich doesn't sound weirdly delicious.

In less than a week, the Kickstarter campaign has reached more than $1,600, which allowed them to raise their original goal of $2,000 to almost $3,200. They're planning on sending out the first wave of sandwiches in August, which is awesome news if you live in the UK — but what about the rest of the world? There's nothing more American than eating a grilled cheese you had delivered because you were too lazy to make it yourself.

"We’ve already had pleas from overseas all over the world and would love to be able to offer a global service one day," Rotheroe said.

One day??? That's not good enough. If there isn't a grilled cheese delivery service in the U.S. by this time next year, I'm moving to England. Your move, America.
