Will Drake Attend The BET Awards?

Drizzy Drake has been busy, as he reminded us when he released If You're Reading This, It's Too Late like a rap Santa Claus in the dead on night in February. He's tirelessly working on changing up the game, and besides STILL working on Views From the 6 (I can't wait any longer, Aubrey, the anticipation is killing me), he also recently partnered with Sprite and The Fader for a short documentary film about the rapper about how he's always trying to stay true to his roots and remember the fans that have been with him since the very beginning — you know what I'm gonna say: since he started from the bottom. It sounds like he has a jam-packed schedule, so when it comes to whether Drake will be at the BET Awards on Sunday, June 28, sadly, he will not.

Actually, he'll be far, far away. After a summer full of festivals, Drake shows no signs of stopping. He headlined both Governor's Ball and Coachella earlier this summer, and he'll be in London the weekend of the BET Awards for the continuation of his Jungle Tour across the pond. On June 24, Champagne Papi posted his tour schedule on Instagram for his appearance at the London Wireless Fest and a little video of himself (sporting a very full, very well-suited beard) showing that he'd already touched down in London Town. So, it's looks like there will be an empty Drake seat at Sunday's awards show.

Aside from his tour schedule and the album he has in the works, the rapper has kind of a rocky relationship with the BET Awards. In 2013, the 28-year-old didn't show up to the BET Awards, and supposedly his absence was because of his ongoing feud with Chris Brown. A source told Hollywood Life that the reason Drake was a no-show in 2013, even though he was nominated for an incredibly impression 13 total awards, "was 100% about Chris Brown," and because Drake, reportedly, wanted to avoid making any scenes in public. Obviously, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, but honestly, who wouldn't go to great lengths to avoid Chris Brown?

Drizzy didn't come to the awards ceremony last summer, either, although the reasons for that are a little more unclear. Neither Rihanna nor Drake were attendance at the 2014 show, which was a huge relief for Chris Brown, apparently. It could be that Drake stayed home for the same reason as before: that he didn't want to see Brown, who, for some reason, was given the chance to perform his song "Loyal" at the ceremony even though he still had assault charges pending.

So, it looks like it's gonna be a Drake-free BET Awards on Sunday, even though the rapper is nominated in three categories: for "Only" with Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, for being part of the Young Money family, and for Best Male Hip Hop Artist. It sounds like Drake's gonna have a good weekend performing in London, and he might even pick up an award at a ceremony that he really just seems to hate. That's double-duty worthy of a 6 God.
