7 Honeymoon Spots Around The World For Couples Who Are Craving Adventure

Now that the Supreme Court has ruled gay marriage bans are unconstitutional, it's time to start planning some weddings... and honeymoons, for that matter. For adventurous couples looking for something totally amazing, these ultra cool honeymoon spots ought to do just the trick.

The honeymoon industry rakes in about $12 billion annually. To put that in perspective, that's approximately the same amount of revenue generated by the entire National Football League. Honeymoons are, on average, about eight days long, so that gives newlyweds plenty of time and money to unwind from the oft-reported pre-wedding stress.

So, where are some creative destinations to satisfy your inner explorer and your outer romantic? Let's take a quick trip around the world to check out some locations that are a little less obvious but no less gorgeous.

Bora Bora

Le Moana Bora Bora has bungalows available for around $425/night, which is the same price you’d pay for a large room at one of the nicer hotels in downtown Los Angeles. With plane tickets included, this trip would still put you well below the average price for a “luxury honeymoon.” Yes, really. Don’t tell anyone.

Pfeiffer Beach — Big Sur, California

Why venture across an ocean to find natural beauty when we have Big Sur and this beautiful beach right here in the USA?! Just up the hill from the Keyhole Arch at Pfeiffer Beach are several campgrounds and romantic resorts tucked into the redwood forest. Save the money you’d spend on a plane ticket, and get an extra order of pancakes at Deetjen’s.

Phuket, Thailand

Getting to Thailand takes… a while, but once you’re there, you can indulge in some serious luxury on the cheap. I mean five-star-hotel-on-the-beach-for-$100-a-night cheap. Plus, there’s Thai food, a rainforest, mountains, and beaches, all just on Phuket.

Kerala, India

Bye, guys! I’m packing a bag for Kerala. A longtime favorite among honeymooners, this state in the southwestern tip of India boasts tropical plant life, backwater canals to explore, and Ayurvedic healing spas. Kerala even has stone tombs built by indigenous people from the neolithic era to indulge your inner history buff.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam is a bustling city that is no stranger to visiting out-of-towners. Its nightlife and famously open and artistic culture creates a dreamy backdrop for newlyweds to experience the adventure of new marital bliss. Stay at the Hilton Amsterdam, and ask for the John & Yoko Honeymoon Suite: the actual site of their infamous “bed-in.”

Havana, Cuba

Now that the United States has loosened the restrictions on traveling to and from Cuba, you can be among the first American newlyweds to adventure to Cuba for your honeymoon. Check out the classic cars that still roam the island, and be sure to catch a live performance from Havana’s vibrant music scene.

Cromwell — South Island, New Zealand

Cromwell is more than just a gorgeous landscape — it is home to several wineries that one can visit for tastings. I don’t think I’ve ever had a wine from New Zealand, but I’m definitely interested in trying some! Resort lodgings are shockingly inexpensive at less than $100 per night for a lakeside suite framed by snow-capped mountains.
