A Lazy Person's Guide To Celebrating July 4th

by Chrissa Hardy

The Fourth of July is a holiday with a lot of chaotic activity. Pretty much everyone has plans to do something on Independence Day, and celebrating the Fourth of July is something many of us look forward to all summer. With the three-day weekend and the hot sunny days, people are out and they are everywhere. But in order to leave the house, you need to put on pants. And that... kinda sucks. What if you don't want to put on pants? What if the crowds and the packed beaches are not your scene? What if you'd prefer to be lazy and show off your American pride from the comfort of your couch? Then you should do just that.

You don't need to go anywhere to celebrate July 4th. Not that this is an overrated holiday, but there is no specific way you have to honor it. As long as you're incorporating some sort of patriotic element into your day, you're set. And isn't it better to take it easy and return to the work week well rested? Instead of joining the mass of people out in the world, stay home and have a lazy party with you, your couch, and your TV. Here's how you can celebrate the Fourth of July without having to put on pants.

1. Watch All The Summer Movies

Independence Day is the obvious priority, but any other summery '90s movie will enhance the fun. Go with The Sandlot, Twister, Now and Then, or any others, and you'll have a better party than most.

2. Wear A Flag Shirt And Nothing Else

You didn't want to wear pants? So don't wear 'em. Just make sure your top half represents the land of the free and home of the brave.

3. Grill Your Burgers Indoors

Sure, there's nothing like the smell of an outdoor grill cooking up some meat, but you don't need to go outside in order to eat the classic July 4th menu. Cook your burgers and your hot dogs indoors, whip up your pasta salads, and feast away.

4. Keep A Patriotic Playlist On Loop

Put all the patriotic songs you've ever heard onto one playlist, and keep it playing in the background. You'll find yourself randomly singing along and you'll feel like a true American, even if you don't know all the words.

5. Eat Red, White, And Blue Candy

This could also be cupcakes, cake, or any other themed dessert. As long as you bought it and didn't make it yourself, you're celebrating in the laziest way possible. Good job!

6. Keep Your Blender Filled With Daiquiris

You aren't driving, so why not do what everyone else is doing and keep the adult beverages flowing? You know you have a few days to recover, so why not enjoy yourself now, right? That's as American as it gets.
