Shia LaBeouf's Rapping Past

by Daniela Cabrera

Oh, Shia LaBeouf. You are ever the man of mystery and extreme passion. Whatever he does, he goes ALL the way, and as we learned from his viral motivational speech, LaBeouf encourages all of us to just DO IT, whatever "it" may be. In his case, the actor and his rattail were apparently hanging out in some type of muddy wilderness and attracted a circle of admirers, so, naturally, Shia LaBeouf began to freestyle rap. And yes, someone caught this on video.

His flow is alright and his lyrics are fine, but now that the video taken of the actor rapping has gone viral, he is coming under fire for supposedly ripping off a few lines from the song "Perfectionist" by Anomolies. Whether or not that's true, I'm sure LaBeouf was just having fun and doesn't plan of releasing this on some mixtape, so I think we can just enjoy the video for what it is, at least for the time being.

It seems like he has always had an affinity for rapping, freestyle or otherwise. LaBeouf has dropped some bars before and this got me thinking that maybe he does have a transition to from actor to rapper in his future. It's pretty obvious by now that LaBeouf does whatever he damn well pleases, so I wouldn't put it past him.

That Time He Was On The Holes Soundtrack

I am a bad LaBeouf fan and haven't watched Holes, but from the look of this, I see young kids in orange jumpsuits digging a lot of holes in the hot sun. The actor plays the role of Stanley, aka "Caveman," and for the movie, he took on the opening verse of "Dig It," which appeared on the official soundtrack. I don't hate it.

That Time He Kinda Killed It In The Studio

This track is a little mysterious, but apparently LaBeouf recorded this with an artist called Galo Shadez sometime around 2002. The actor is featured on the second verse of "Where U Reppin," and I don't have any idea what happened with this song, but his verse is actually kind of good. He starts around the 1:35 mark.

That Time He Was Put On The Spot On Late Night Television

After showing off his break dancing skills, the 29-year-old went on to do an impromptu freestyle performance on Craig Kilborn's Late Late Show. Check it out at the 5:00 mark.

That Time He Maybe Released A Secret Track

Sooo, some fans have labeled this as a Shia LaBeouf track and after listening to it, I'm inclined to think it really is him. The lyrics are silly, the video is bizarre and it definitely sounds like his other rapping work. Plus, he supposed started a hip hop group, Element, with his best friend when he was at teenager, and "element" is referenced a few times throughout the track.

Honestly, LaBeouf is way better than I imagined and maybe soon he will add hip hop star to his already eclectic resume. He has the guts and passion to do it.
