Model Casey Legler Poses For The Upside

by Julia Guerra

America really is the land of the free, as our country’s recent increase in progression and acceptance has opened so many doors for those who identify as a memberof the LGBT community. Androgynous model Casey Legler is the face of The Upside’s "Be You" campaign, marking this her first womenswear gig to date. Posing alongside America’s Next Top Model winner Tahnee Atkinson, Legler definitely embodies the “fierce ass women” persona she claims attracted her to the Australian brand.

It is fitting that Legler would choose the active wear campaign as her first in womenswear, as the "Be You" campaign encourages the exploration and acceptance of the multiple definitions of femininity we come across today.

During a behind the scenes look at the campaign, Tahnee Atkinson states that there are “no qualifications to be feminine. A woman wearing a dress is feminine and a woman wearing leather pants is feminine,” she continues, “because at the end of the day whatever a woman does is going to be feminine because she’s a woman.”

For the campaign, Legler was photographed in a baggy black t-shirt and an over-sized camouflage jacket, indeed looking quite fierce. "The upside to being me,” she says, “is that I have had the privilege of a really challenging, exciting and difficult life and so I’m really grateful for all of these things because they have made me who I am today.”

The former Olympic swimmer has had great success throughout her career as a model, posing for Diesel and All Saints' menswear lines as well as being featured in Vogue, Vogue Paris and i-D magazine.

I look forward to see what comes next for the 38-year-old androgynous model on her journey as she continues to inspire those who relate to her story.
