Beyoncé Is Platinum Blond, Everybody

by Tyler Atwood

Beyoncé's hair is mesmerizing us yet again. Fans got their first glimpse of Bey's newly platinum tresses at an NBA game in Oklahoma City this week, where the singer was in attendance. Flecked with dirty blond lowlights and displaying dark roots, the dye job is a seriously bold choice. People Style Watch has the pic — go see.

After trying out a pixie cut back in August, Beyoncé appears to have felt the need to shake up her hairstyle yet again. She's gone blond before, but this particularly bleached shade is a step beyond the star's previous experimental looks.

For a celebrity whose look has run the style gamut from body suits and pin straight locks to curve-hugging haute couture and cropped hair, a newly bleached blond coif should not be such a bewildering transformation. After all, this is a woman who shed twenty pounds in less than a fortnight to adopt the physicality of her Dreamgirls character Deena Jones.

But there is a distinction between going platinum in music and going platinum in hair, and dare we say fewer people can achieve the latter with aplomb? (Emily Weiss, we're looking at you.) However, one of the universal rules of hair coloring dictates that the dye takes time to settle in, so what we're seeing on Beyoncé's tresses is not necessarily the final product. We're temporarily reserving judgement in deference to Beyoncé's innate understanding of style.
