Torrid's Latest Changes Are Pretty Major

by Jodie Layne

Ubiquitous retailer Torrid has just quietly taken a huge step for plus size fashion — the brand has expanded its offerings to now include cute plus size clothes in size 34/36. While most widely available contemporary plus clothing is made to max out at a size 4X or 24, Torrid expanding its size range shows that the brand is aware that women's bodies don't stop at those sizes. And that fashionistas above a 24 want amazing clothes, too!

As plus size fashion becomes more mainstream and customers demand more options and more current, trend-driven offerings, it's nice to see the lines expand to meet the demand of customers of all sizes. Eloquii expanded its line to include size 26 and size 28 earlier this spring, making this a burgeoning trend in the industry.

The addition of Torrid's new size 6 reportedly came following a revamp of its website, which also included a ton of new features to make shopping the brand's e-commerce site that much easier. But the size expansion, for the most part, won't just include one or two token items: There are 84 styles of tops that come in the new size 6!

So, is this finally the surge of the so-called "Plus Size Wars" that is making brands work hard to court their customers' affections instead of relying on being the only option in town? I sure hope so.

There's no word yet on whether these sizes have, or will, land in the brand's brick and mortar stores, but I do hope so for all the plus size babes who don't have many other options. Yet.
