How Do You Feel About A Pizza-Chicken Hybrid?

I don't know why I'm still surprised by the increasingly bizarre fast food creations that keep finding their way into the world … and yet somehow, I am. I was, for example, taken completely by surprise by KFC Hong Kong's Napoli Crispy Pizza Chicken, largely because the idea of a pizza-chicken hybrid is just too much for my fevered little brain to handle. Seriously, you guys. Pizza chicken. Chicken that is also a pizza. I have, as they say, lost my ability to even.

According to Metro, Napoli Crispy Pizza Chicken consists of Original Recipe fried chicken thighs and drum sticks, plus a tomato sauce base and some sort of “breaded mozzarella and cheddar mix.” Although at first I experienced a certain amount of confusion regarding what, exactly, that “breaded mozzarella and cheddar mix” entailed, a video posted on the KFC Hong Kong Facebook page cleared it up somewhat: It looks like the chicken is breaded before getting a delicate sprinkling of cheese. The cheese subsequently melts on top of the breading, leaving you with something sort of like an inside-out mozzarella stick. With chicken. Or… something.

Here. Just … watch it. Maybe it will make more sense to you than it does to me:

You know what I think the weirdest part of the whole thing is, though? This isn't the first time we've seen a fast food place attempt to create a chicken-pizza hybrid. Domino's unleashed a terrifying creation on the world last year called “Specialty Chicken,” which many described as “fried chicken crust pizza.” At the time, I remarked that it was really more like chicken nachos than chicken pizza, a comment behind which I still stand today. But you guys, what is with the chicken pizza obsession? Chicken is great on pizza … but I'm not convinced I actually want to eat it as pizza.

Maybe that's just me, though. A few brave souls around Bustle HQ maintain that Napoli Crispy Pizza Chicken actually looks pretty tasty to them, so no judging. If pizza-chicken is your thing, then by all means, go forth and enjoy it — as long as you're able to get to Hong Kong. Worst case scenario, I suppose you can always try to make something similar from scratch yourself. If you use a technique similar to the one I used to recreate Wendy's Jalapeno Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich, you should be able to get the job done. Just marinate your chicken pieces in tomato sauce for maybe half an hour, roll them around in some flour seasoned with salt, pepper, and Italian spices, dunk 'em in egg, roll them in Panko crumbs, and sprinkle cheese on top, before baking them at 450 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, and you should be good to go.

And hey, I suppose at least the pizza chicken isn't dressed up like a sexy chicken nugget. I fear such an image might have made my head explode outright.
