Serena Williams Totally Deserves A Biopic

by Kenya Foy

Just in case anyone needs another reason to cheers to the freakin' weekend, here's another cause for a celebratory toast: On Saturday, Serena Williams won the Wimbledon championship for the sixth time in her career, bringing her number of Grand Slam titles to an astounding 21. Maintaining her position as the No. 1 female tennis player in the world, 33-year-old Williams beat her 21-year-old Spanish opponent Garbiñe Muguruza 6-4, 6-4. (I know — how crazy is it that Williams doesn't have a biopic yet?!) The youngest Williams sister is likely eager to go out and celebrate her latest victory, but judging by all the celebrities who reacted to Williams’ Wimbeldon win, she’ll have tons of people to share her big moment with, even if they’re only with her in spirit.

Now, since Williams has basically earned the right to be referred to as a one-woman winning machine, I'd say it's high time someone got to work on her biopic. Honestly, she has enough accolades for a sequel, but one solid look at her life’s accomplishments thus far is as good enough place to start as any. Clearly, Williams is an extraordinary athlete who constantly pushes the envelope, and whether she's stunning spectators with an insanely fast serve or making a creative fashion statement while following Wimbledon's all-white uniform guidelines, she’s set the mark for women everywhere by making/breaking the rules on and off the court.

Here are six reasons a Serena Williams biopic needs to happen:

She Came From Humble Beginnings

As the New York Daily News wrote, Williams was trained by her father Richard on the courts of Compton. It was at that time she picked up a solid set of work ethics that have fueled her transition from an inner-city athlete to an internationally-renowned tennis champion.

She's From A Family Of Champions

Perhaps you've heard of her equally phenomenal sister, Venus?

She Represents Strong Women

From dismissing sexist questions from reporters to becoming the face of a Berlei lingerie campaign that promotes body confidence, Williams has a voice and she's not afraid to use it to encourage women.

Williams Is Basically Unstoppable

Throughout her career, she's dealt with defeat, injuries, and having to abruptly quit a Wimbledon doubles' match with her sister due to illness. In spite of everything, she consistently comes out on top.

She's A Fearless Competitor

Williams has never been afraid to give it her all on the court. That's a typical characteristic of a reigning champ who routinely makes history.

She's Multi-Faceted

From her stunning April 2015 Vogue cover to acting and her clothing line, Williams has shown that just because her success started on the court, that certainly doesn't mean it ends there.
