The 'Anchorman 2' Cast Can Harmonize

by Lindsay Mannering

You know that scene in Anchorman (of course you do), where the gang's all hanging out in Ron Burgundy's office and they break into an impromptu rendition of Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight?" Didn't you just assume that those tight-ass harmonies were dubbed? I know I did. There was just no way those comedians were also Boys II Men-level a cappellists. But now that the Anchorman 2 cast sang "Afternoon Delight" live, it's pretty clear that Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and David Koechner are secretly some of the best vocal stylists this side of the Whale's Vagina.

On a promotional tour in Australia, the quartet sang the song onstage in front of an eager crowd. From Carell's falsetto to Rudd's rich baritone... tones to Koechner's beautifully mimicked slide whistle sounds, these gentlemen are about as talented as they come. If we don't get an Anchorman 2 Christmas album at some point in 2014, the world will be worse off for it.

Naturally, the star performer here is Will Ferrell, who kicks off the song not only in the right key, but with the right attitude. If you loved Ferrell's performance of "Baby It's Cold Outside" in Elf , well, that was the correct response. So now respond positively to this song, as well. It's the right thing to do.

Anchorman 2 hits theaters Dec. 19.
