TSwift's Latest Tour Guest Is A Major Surprise

by Rachel Simon

Last night was one for the bucket list, you guys. After years of opening Ticketmaster just a second too late, I finally got to see Taylor Swift in concert, at her New Jersey date on her 1989 World Tour. And oh, was it worth it; not only did TSwift put her heart into every song she performed, she also brought on special guests that made the show even better: Martha Hunt and Gigi Hagid, among other top models who've been regulars on 1989, plus a few faces no one saw coming. Swift brought on Nick Jonas to duet on his hit "Jealous," plus Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba to strut down the stage during "Style." Yes, really — Swift's latest tour date included surprise appearances by the baby Jonas Brother and "Crazy Eyes."

It's not like I should've been so shocked, though; Swift has spent her entire tour so far bringing on special guests, ranging from her model BFFS like Kendall Jenner and Karlie Kloss to fellow musicians, like Echosmith and Rachel Platten. And while some have been pretty expected (Cara Delevingne, I knew you'd show up in London), others, like Jonas (aka the brother of Swift's ex-boyfriend) and Aduba (who previously had no connection to the #Squad), were way more surprising. Check out Swift and Jonas' duet on "Jealous," below:

Pretty cool, right? Both surprises were amazing to witness, and I'm even more impressed than before by Swift's ever-growing group of friends. Here's how the Jonas and Aduba surprises rank within my picks for Swift's best 1989 surprises so far.

8. Ed Sheeran

It's not the most unexpected duet (Swift and Sheeran have been BFFS forever), but it was a good one. The stars sang Sheeran's "Tenerife Sea" during her show in Las Vegas, and, like always, they sounded fantastic together.

7. Hailee Steinfeld And Lena Dunham

Steinfeld and Dunham joined the tour for Swift's first New Jersey date, appearing onstage alongside Gigi Hagid and Lily Aldridge during "Style." Again, not totally unexpected, but The Trinity and Lucky Fiori's appearances certainly made great additions to the show.

6. Mariska Hargitay

Olivia Benson (no, not the cat) joined Swift during a Philadelphia show, and it was wonderful.

5. Nick Jonas

Swift's most recent musical surprise was a great one; not only did Jonas join the tour in his home state, but he performed his hit song "Jealous" — and had Swift sing along.

4. Serena Williams

The tennis star joined Swift and co. onstage during "Style," right before Wimbledon began. Not a bad way to start an eventful week.

3. Uzo Aduba

One of Swift's best surprises yet was bringing Uzo Aduba, a star of Orange is the New Black, up during "Style." No one knew the two were even friends, let alone close enough to be together on tour, yet now that it's clear, I want them to collaborate on everything, ever.

2. The U.S. Women's Soccer Team

It was incredibly cool to see the U.S. Women's Soccer Team, fresh off their World Cup victory and holding their trophy, come onstage to celebrate with Swift. What a remarkable display of female solidarity and pride.

1. Emma Watson

She may not have been an official guest, only appearing backstage, but knowing that Swift and Watson are friends may have been the best surprise of all.

What's Swift going to do next? Honestly, the only thing that could even surprise me at this point would be if she brought President Obama himself onstage. But I mean, I wouldn't count it out: it's Taylor Swift's tour — anything is possible.
