by Melissah Yang

Things are not looking up (in here) for DMX. On Tuesday, the 44-year-old rapper was sentenced to six months in jail for failing to pay his child support, according to Billboard. He was put in the Erie County Holding Center, a maximum security detention facility, in Buffalo, New York.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested last month at Radio City Music Hall in New York, just moments before stepping out to perform. According to PIX 11, there were several outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest. Eric County Family Court issued a warrant for DMX's arrest because of $400,000 in back child support. The City of White Plains issued another warrant for bail jumping. Yonkers, where DMX is from, accused him of being an aggravated unlicensed motor vehicle operator. The rapper was also identified as a suspect in an April 5 robbery in Newark, New Jersey, though no criminal charges were filed.

Singer Shaggy confirmed the news via Twitter to let fans know DMX would not be able to attend Shaggfest in Virginia Beach, Virginia, later this month. "It comes with sadness and regret. But Dmx will not be attending this year#shaggfest. -- he got locked up today for 6 months," he tweeted.

DMX has long had a "ruff ryde" with the law. Over the years, he has had multiple arrests, including charges of animal cruelty, reckless driving, and drugs and weapons possessions. In a highly publicized incident in 2004, DMX was arrested for impersonating a federal agent, along with a flurry of other charges, at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Representatives for DMX did not respond to Bustle's requests for comment.
