The Emmys' Julianna Margulies Snub Really Hurts

What were they thinking? The 2015 Emmy Award nominations were announced on Thursday, and, tragically, The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies was snubbed. Gasp! The Emmys have made a powerful, powerful enemy today, my friends. (Just kidding, I have no power... but I am pretty upset.) For those of you who haven't been keeping track, Margulies has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Emmys four times for her role as Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife, winning twice. Oh, and she was previously nominated in the same category four times for her role as Carol Hathaway on NBC's acclaimed medical drama, ER. Emmy voters love Margulies... right? I guess not as much as I thought!

This year's frustrating snub isn't unprecedented, however: after making the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series line-up three years in a row (2010, 2011, and 2012), Margulies was curiously left off the nominee list in 2013. Huh. However, she returned in 2014 and took home the trophy. Wait, really? Yup. To be completely honest, I'm not exactly sure what's going on here.

Unfortunately, I suspect the Emmys have begun to cool on The Good Wife — and that's a shame. Season 6 really allowed Margulies to "flex her acting muscles," so to speak, as Alicia was confronted time and time again with tricky moral dilemmas while campaigning to become Chicago's next state's attorney. She absolutely deserved to make the cut.

Oh well. Better luck next time, champ.
