Obviously, 'Veep's Selina Meyer Loves Jon Hamm

by Alex Kritselis

Well, this is exciting (but not at all surprising) news: Julia Louis-Dreyfus has once again been nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of President (formerly Vice President) Selina Meyer on HBO's hit comedy series Veep. (You can read the full list of 2015 Emmy Award nominees here.) The 54-year-old Seinfeld alum has taken home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series trophy for the last three years running — and I think she could triumph once more. Shortly after the nominations were announced on Thursday, Louis-Dreyfus sent out a brief (but hilarious) statement to the press, in which she reveals Selina will be rooting for Mad Men star Jon Hamm on Emmy night. (Louis-Dreyfus stayed "in character" for her statement — just as she's done during several of her recent award show appearances). Check it out below:

As President, my staff and I are too busy doing the people's business to watch television. Nonetheless, we are thrilled to be a part of this celebration of creativity. (Go Jon Hamm!)

Ah, fictional President Selina Meyer — she's just like us! Everybody loves Jon Hamm. If you think about it for a second, this development makes perfect sense. I mean, I realize Selina said she's too busy to watch TV — but I don't buy that for a second. You know she watched Mad Men in her jammies every Sunday night with her loyal assistant, Gary. She had to keep up with the show in order to have something to talk about with her daughter, Catherine. After Don Draper, Selina's favorite character is probably Megan's mom (but she likes Joan, too). Yup, it all adds up.

The 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to air on Sept. 20 on FOX.
