6 Non-Monogamous & Open Celebrity Couples Who Show Traditional Isn't The Only Way To Go

Once a big taboo, non-monogamous and open relationships are not guaranteed to elicit gasps like they once did. This may be in part due to the fact that people are starting to open up more about their special arrangements in their marriages and relationships. Hollywood couples who are not shy about their open relationships undoubtedly play a role in this phenomenon. This type of arrangement is obviously not for everybody, but as these celebs show, it is not something that automatically spells doomsday for all couples either.

Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith

In response to a question about an open relationship with the Fresh Prince, Jada Pinkett Smith told HuffPost Live that Will “is his own man” and “can do whatever” he wants. She was then met with a wave of criticism about the definition of commitment, so she addressed her comments on social media by saying, “Do we believe loving someone means owning them? Do we believe that ownership is the reason someone should ‘behave’?” Then she directly addressed her HuffPost Live comments saying, “Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so.” Rather than calling it an “open relationship” she called it a “grown” one.

Mo'Nique & Sid Hicks

This funny lady has no problem opening up about her open marriage with husband Sid Hicks. The actress told Barbara Walters in 2010 that she is “comfortable and secure” with her husband within their marriage arrangements. The 47-year old added, “Could Sid have sex outside of his marriage with me? Yes. That’s not a deal-breaker. That’s not something that would make us say, ‘Pack your things and let’s end the marriage.’”

Dolly Parton & Carl Dean

Hey, did you know that Dolly Parton has been married for more than 50 years? Her hubby Carl Dean, the owner of a road-surfacing business, is super mysterious and low-profile to the extent that he has rarely been photographed with her. But according to the legendary country singer, the two could not be happier. And the 69-year-old spilled the non-monogamous secret to her marriage’s success, with some ground rules included. In a 2014 interview with The Mirror, she said, “He’s not jealous and I’m not jealous of him. He knows I flirt. He flirts too. Yes, it’s an open relationship, but NOT sexually and I would kill him if I thought he was doing that. He would shoot me too. At the end of the day we love each other madly.”

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie spilled to a German magazine that monogamy was not all that important to her and that fidelity is not essential for a relationship to work. She said, “Neither Brad nor I have ever claimed that living together means to be chained together. We make sure that we never restrict each other.”

T-Pain & Amber Najm

The singer has been married to wife Amber Najm for almost 12 years years and they have three children together. The 30-year-old admitted to having an open relationship, but would only let other women in the bedroom with his wife there, too. So how did this come about? As he told TMZ, “You’re not going to do the convincing. You got to let her do it. You know what I’m saying? We didn’t come up on it like, ‘Oh baby, I wanna do this with other girls. No. It was her choice.”

Kody Brown & His Four Wives

About as open as it gets! Kody Brown and his four wives catapulted to the spotlight when they agreed to be part of the TLC reality show Sister Wives. The show chronicles the family’s journey as they navigate a life of polygamy with their 16 combined children. Most recently Brown has “restructured” his family by legally marrying another wife, other than the one he was originally legally married to. The others were married in “spiritual ceremonies.” Well, it sounds like they’re still all part of the family!
