Bieber's Lip Sync Battle Has A Surprising End

by Keertana Sastry

I might not be a Belieber, but I have to hand it to the pop star who sets so many young hearts a flutter. Justin Bieber appeared on Lip Sync Battle and expertly channeled Ozzy Osbourne while performing "Crazy Train," and yet he still only went home with a tie. That's right, Bieber's competition, NFL legend Deion Sanders, was equally excellent in his lip sync performances so much so that Sanders tied with the Biebs thanks to two rather perfect song choices, one of which was a direct joke against Bieber.

In my opinion, the tie makes perfect sense. As we all know by now, the lip sync battles are divided into two rounds. The first round, as host LL Cool J would describe it, consists of the celebrities strictly lip syncing. There are no frills, no costumes, to major extravagant dance breaks. They rely on pure lip sync-ability. The second round however, is where the celebs show off their show-stopping numbers. The best part about watching the Justin Bieber and Deion Sanders showdown is that there was no telling who was going to take home the crown, despite it seeming like the audience ran slightly younger and more Belieber-heavy than usual. Bieber seemed to have an advantage, and even Deion Sanders' daughter didn't think he had a shot in Hell of winning. But boy did he prove everyone wrong.

In the first round, Bieber turned out an emotional but corny performance of Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry," which was easily shadowed by Sanders' choice: "Play That Funky Music White Boy." The song choice was clearly poking fun at Bieber, which was made even more obvious when Sanders literally stared and walked up to Bieber when announcing the song and when performing it. Bieber didn't sweat it though, he actually joined in on the lip syncing at the end of the performance. But he did say that he wasn't scared at all about the competition. Sanders definitely won the first round, but Bieber was about to go all out for his second performance as Ozzy Osbourne singing "Crazy Train."

Sanders came out swinging in round two with a hilarious rendition of Madonna's "Like A Virgin." The former football player had a giant wedding cake onstage and donned a white tutu (with all the frills) as well as a wig that ran closer to Shirley Temple than Madonna. But he's forgiven considering the sheer entertainment value of the song choice. He probably could have done a little more and fully committed to the actual performance, and that's where Bieber was able to swoop in and take some points away. Bieber's "Crazy Train" performance featured the darkness, the crazy eyes and the iconic hair that Ozzy used to bring every time. And for added effect, Bieber even bit the head off of a fake bat filled with strawberry sauce inside to give the effect of blood, much like Ozzy's infamous bat biting stunt.

In the end, it was just too hard to crown a winner. LL Cool J had the audience shout for their favorite twice and eventually called Sanders the champion. But Sanders was a gracious winner and admitted that it was too close to call, so he was happy calling the battle a tie. Bieber joked that he won but agreed to the tie as well. Now the question is how exactly are they going to share this thing?
