Hear A Preview Of Hailee Steinfeld's Debut Single

by Alex Kritselis

On Tuesday, Pitch Perfect 2 star Hailee Steinfeld unveiled a preview of her new single, "Love Myself," and it sounds like a massive self-empowerment anthem (a.k.a. my very favorite kind of anthem). I think the track (due out Aug. 7) could give Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" some stiff competition for the title of self-empowerment anthem of summer 2015! In case you missed it, we learned Steinfeld had signed a recording contract with Republic Records shortly after the premiere of Pitch Perfect 2 in May. Billboard reports the 18-year-old Oscar–nominated actress (yup, she's only 18 and she's already nabbed an Oscar nom) is expected to drop her debut album sometime this year.

According to the Warner/Chappell Music website, "Love Myself" was co-written by Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter (two of the songwriters behind Selena Gomez's new single, "Good For You") and produced by Swedish duo Mattman & Robin (Taylor Swift's "All You Had to Do Was Stay"). Steinfeld told Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday morning that the feel-good tune is "about taking care of and indulging yourself." She explained:

Though it’s nice to have someone provide for you — whether that be emotionally, or physically, or with material things — this song really represents the power in providing for yourself.

Hear, hear! Check out the "Love Myself" preview below.

"Hey!/I love myself/No, I don't need anybody else..."

Tell 'em, Hailee! Yes, "Love Myself" sounds very promising, indeed. I can't wait to hear the whole thing.
