Rand Paul Wants A Tax Code Chainsaw Massacre

by Melissah Yang

The GOP side of the 2016 presidential race is providing so many gaffes and laughs that The Huffington Post's decision to cover Donald Trump as entertainment might not seem so out there after all. In the latest chapter of who can out-Trump Trump, a new campaign video shows Rand Paul wanting to kill the tax code. He gives voters three bizarre options on how to make the 70,000-page document's death swift and even shows how it'd be done.

Wearing a black and white Tee that says "Detroit Republican," Rand stands in front of a banner with the words, "Defeat the Washington machine. Unleash the American Dream." He's surrounded by what appears to be stacks upon stacks of blank white papers. The senator then touts his plan to annihilate the country's tax code.

Hey, I'm Rand Paul, and I'm trying to killing the tax code, all 70,000 pages of it. If you want to know about my plan to have a one-page tax code, a one-page tax return, a flat tax of 14.5 percent, you can go to RandPaul.com to learn more about it.

Here's when you're prompted with the question, "How would you kill the tax code?" An electric guitar plays our national anthem in the background to get you in a patriotically destroying mood. Your options?

Take It To The Flames

Feed A Wood Chipper

Have A Chainsaw Butchery

Not only do we get an idea of how Paul feels about the importance of recycling, we once again hear the kind of dramatic measures he'd take with tax reform. This actually isn't the first time Paul has proposed to ax the tax code (though he has yet to actually suggest taking an ax to it). In June, the Republican wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed titled "Blow Up The Tax Code And Start Over." If that solution was used for all of the country's problems, we'd literally have nothing left to govern. But hey, at least in Paul's views, we would somehow be able to phoenix out of the ashes of our past.

This election cycle has just gone from strange to absurd, and I blame Trump. Sorry, I meant thank Trump because without him in this race, who's to say we'd still get campaign treasures like this.
