Pam Finally Betrays Her Brother On 'Wayward Pines'

by Keertana Sastry

Things are moving so very quickly on FOX's series Wayward Pines. The show, which is based on a book series by Blake Crouch, began with Special Agent Ethan Burke waking up in the eerie town of Wayward Pines after a car crash and finds that the town is creepier than he could have ever imagined. Now, after just nine episodes, we've come to the finale and things have changed so drastically since those days. Oh, Ethan was just so naive back then. Thursday night brought the Wayward Pines series finale — or quite possibly just a season finale, since a second season could still happen —as well as the climax and resolution of Kate and Harold's rebellion against David Pilcher, and things did not go smoothly. But there were moments of hope from surprising people. Pam Pilcher, David's sister, finally chose to align herself with those standing against David after doubt began filling in her brain about her brother's ideals. Pam killed David after he refused to turn on the power to the fence that kept the Abbies at bay, but it wasn't an easy rode to revolution for Pam.

Pam's loyalties toward David have been wavering for a few episodes now, and his act of cutting the power to Wayward Pines and allowing the Abbies was definitely a huge step in the wrong direction. Throughout the finale, Pam tried desperately to get David to change his mind and protect his town and citizens once again, but his mind was made up. It was time to rid the town of Group B and awaken Group C from their suspended animation, to start the town over with the same rules, order and leadership.

The straw that really broke the camel's back came when David forced his sister to be taken away by security and sent back into suspended animation, despite her pleas to David and those still loyal to him. In fact, one guard used a taser to subdue Pam during her speech for change, and after being forced into her sleep chamber, the damage was done. There was no way she was ever going to respect, love and be loyal to her brother again. Thankfully, another guard with more reasonable ideals allowed Pam to be reawakened once again. And without a second to lose, Pam returned to David's luxurious digs and shot and killed him when it was clear that even by force, he was unwavering in his desire to see Group B killed and to start his town anew.

Pam clearly believed that David's desire to be God had gone too far. And when Ethan made the ultimate sacrifice to die while protecting the town, Pam and Kate knew that a new era at Wayward Pines had to be ushered in. This time the town would be built on trust, absolute truth about the real way of the world. Unfortunately we find out that their way of life didn't stick as Ethan's son Ben discovers the town back to its Pilcher-ous ways after being awakened from a three-year slumber. And the creepy cycle continues.
