Oprah's OWN Scores a Big Win

by Kate Ward

It's been quite some time since Oprah Winfrey scored a win for her embattled network OWN (five months, to be precise), but things are suddenly looking up for the mogul. According to Entertainment Weekly, the network will air revived soaps All My Children and One Life to Live for 10 weeks.

Though not quite appointment television on par with Lance Armstrong's doping confession in January, the soaps will attract a new audience for the ratings-plagued OWN, which has yet to score a hit since its 2011 launch. The same year, All My Children and One Life to Live were canceled after 41 and 43 years on air, respectively, to the dismay of loyal soap viewers nationwide. Earlier this year, production company Prospect Park announced they would resuming production on the series, and, evidently, they've landed at Winfrey's network.

OWN's demographic is consistent with soap audiences — the network has already attempted to score the viewers that watched Winfrey during her talk show days at CBS.

“We are really excited to bring OWN viewers and our audience at large an opportunity to catch up on All My Children and One Life to Live on traditional television,” Prospect Park Networks CEO Jeff Kwatinetz said. “We look forward to our millions of fans enjoying the first 40 episodes of the shows.”

We bet they do.
