What Would Tom & Elizabeth Talk About On A Date?

by Maitri Suhas

It's a truth universally acknowledged that first dates are terrible. They are awkward, uncomfortably, and 99 percent of the time devoid of any chemistry whatsoever. Because of this, I'm lead to believe that the photos paparazzi snapped of actors Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen on Thursday night were not from a first date, but from a much later date. The pair looked as comfortable as ever together (albeit frazzled by the persistent, irritating photographers, I'm sure). While neither Hiddleston nor Olsen have confirmed a relationship, the photos are being considered by many (including myself, to be honest) as hard evidence that the two are, in fact, dating, as started being rumored a few months ago. This could be their millionth date for all I know, but I can't help but wonder what the two movie stars talked about on their first date?

Of course, Hiddleston, 34, and Olsen, 26, are co-stars in Marvel's Avengers movies, starring as Loki and The Scarlet Witch, respectively, but let us imagine for a second that they were just two regular Joes who met through the normal channels, like mutual friends or the Internet. What would it be like to be a fly on the wall in whatever too-loud restaurant they went to to awkwardly get to know one another?

There are certain things that you're not "supposed" to talk about on first dates, according to some dated old wives' tales, but these seven topics are safe. Hiddles and Olsen might have chatted about...

1. America Vs. England

Though both Hiddleston and Olsen are Hollywooders now, they grew up across the pond from each other. "Do you drink tea and not coffee? Do you call bangs 'fringe?' Did you wear uniforms to school?" Olsen might ask. And Hiddleston would be like, "Do you like eagles?" Haha. Just kidding. He knows what America is like.

2. Family

I imagine that Hiddles would want to know what's it like to be the younger sister of twins, who is nicer, Mary Kate or Ashley? Who doesn't want a Michelle Tanner update? Hiddleston, on the other hand, is a middle child, which I bet would have been difficult, were he not so mature and wise. He's got an older sister, a journalist in India, and a younger sister, who is also an actor. He's said before that he loves confident women, especially the ones in his family.

3. Haircare

Unlikely? Let me tell you, were I on a first date with either Elizabeth Olsen or Tom Hiddleston, I wouldn't be able to help myself from asking them what kind of conditioner they used. I'm sure pretty people going out divulge their beauty secrets to one another as a courtesy.

4. Harry Potter

When in doubt, just talk about Harry Potter. Hiddleston, because he's not your average bear, is friends with fellow Brit and the Greatest Witch Of Her Age, Emma Watson; and Olsen worked with Daniel Radcliffe, the Harry Potter, on the film Kill Your Darlings. There'd be so much to talk about: What houses would they be in? Who is their favorite member of the Order of the Phoenix? Why is Percy such a bozo? Shouldn't Harry have ended up with Luna Lovegood? Was Tom sad that he was, like, the only British actor who wasn't in the Harry Potter series? That might be a sore subject.

5. Exes

Talking about past relationships on a first date (or any date, let's be real) can be a dangerous game, but it's difficult not to go there. You've got romance on the brain! Hiddleston seems like a true gentleman, so he may not kiss and tell out of respect to his past beaus, but, were I Olsen, I would at least want to know if any of the Hiddleston dating rumors were true. On the other side of things, Tom would probably be gentlemanly enough not to bring up Olsen's broken engagement with her old flame, Boyd Holbrook. Yes, his name is Boyd.

6. Their BFFs

Elizabeth Olsen is a smart cookie, so you better believe she would wanna know just how much Hiddles loves his BFF Benedict Cumberbatch. (I'm sure she probably has a tiny crush on him, because who doesn't? Even Tom does).

7. How Good It Feels To Be Bad

They're coworkers, so of course work is gonna come up. There's no way that Hiddleston and Olsen could go on a first date without talking about Avengers. Bad is the best.
