Spoilers ahead for Firefly Lane Season 2, Part 1. The rift between life-long friends Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) reached a heartbreaking climax at the end of Firefly Lane Season 2 Part 1, with the women no longer speaking to each other after Tully’s role in the car accident that seriously injured Kate’s daughter. But their estrangement couldn’t come at a worse time — because in the final moments of Episode 9, Kate received a breast cancer diagnosis.

Will they find their way back to each other in time to make amends? Hopefully so, because Firefly Lane is ending with Season 2, Part 2. “One of the beautiful things I will say about this story, and one of the reasons I love it, is that even though there is a love triangle, their relationship is bigger than that,” creator Maggie Friedman told Entertainment Tonight. “Their sisterhood is stronger than any man could come between them. And they are soulmates. I think that’s cool because there’s a way that story could’ve been told where it's all about Johnny and them cat-fighting over Johnny. But that's not what it is at all.”

As Friedman put it, Tully and Kate’s sisterhood is definitely bigger than boy troubles. But what about life-and-death challenges? The Season 2, Part 1 finale took things to another level, making the pair’s future unclear.

Now, in a new trailer, fans are getting their first look at what happens next — and it’s not great. First, Tully is away in Antarctica, blissfully unaware of Kate’s predicament back home. “She’s actually probably great,” she says, before the trailer cuts to Kate struggling with the effects of her illness.

By the end of the trailer, Tully does show up at Kate’s door, but it’s unclear how Kate is doing at that point. In fact, her bed is ominously empty. “What took you so long?” Kate asks offscreen. However, new photos from Netflix do confirm that Tully and Kate spend time together after Kate’s diagnosis.

Fortunately, fans don’t need to wait too much longer to find out what happens, as Firefly Lane Season 2 Part 2 premieres on April 27. And if you want to spoil the ending for yourself, you can read the Firefly Lane book while you wait. But be warned: if the TV show follows the same plot as Kristin Hannah's original 2008 novel, it’s sure to be a tearjerker.
