Lizzo may have had a very public flirtation with Chris Evans, but now, she’s officially “in love” with her boyfriend, Myke Wright. On June 6, Lizzo made her red carpet debut with her new beau, per PopSugar, at a “For Your Consideration” event for her Amazon Prime Video series Lizzo’s Watch Out For the Big Grrrls. After the screening, the 34-year-old Grammy winner posted a slideshow from the event, including two snapshots of the couple posing on the red carpet, with a ring on her left hand, sparking engagement rumors among some fans.

However, she laughed off the engagement speculation in a July 20 interview with Elle UK, even downplaying her relationship by joking “it’s a bromance.” “I see my glam squad more than I see my man,” she quipped. That said, her relationship with Wright is “everything,” as she told Vanity Fair in October. “I've known him for over six years. We're just in love. And that's it,” she said. She went on to call him her “life mate” and “love of my life,” but said they would only tie the knot for one reason. “If I wanted to start a business with him, I'd get married because that's when your finances come together,” she explained. “I like weddings. I would like to have a wedding over a marriage.”

It seems as though the “About Damn Time” singer changed her tune about her endgame. During a Dec. 12 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Stern asked Lizzo if she thinks she’ll marry Wright and have children with him. “There’s nobody else I’m gonna be with for the rest of my life,” the Yitty founder said definitively.

While it’s not known how long Lizzo and Wright have been dating, the two go as far back as 2016, when they co-hosted and starred in the former MTV show Wonderland. The singer opened up about their bond in a July 15 interview with The Breakfast Club, revealing they started out as friends before she got famous. “I have the most genuine people around me,” she said. “Everyone I'm close with has known me before all of this happened and I think that's important. Even the man I'm with, he knew me before all of this too. We were friends. It hit different when they knew you before 2019.”

In a July interview with Apple Music, the singer told Zane Lowe that love is “the heart” of her sophomore album Special, whether it’s self-love or romance. “I think everything I've been doing prior to Special was in pursuit of love,” she said. “Cuz I Love You was an almost autobiographical album about who I want to be... Special is almost a celebration of who I am right now, it's very present. And I think the only place love can really exist is in the present.”

Naturally, fans are figuring out the songs that are possibly inspired by Wright, pointing out the romantic lyrics of “Break Up Twice” and “Coldplay.” Lizzo spoke to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin about the latter track during her Apple Music interview, revealing that every romantic detail in the song, like singing the band’s song on a trip to Tulum, actually happened. “I was with somebody and I was just looking at the stars and I was with him and I was singing it and tears just were coming to my eyes,” she said. Needless to say, Wright enjoyed the track.

The actor and comedian was first spotted with Lizzo on Valentine’s Day at the Los Angeles hotspot Craig’s, dressed in head-to-toe black and a face mask with an embroidered heart so only his eyes were visible. His identity was pretty difficult to discern at the time, but fans were quick to jump to the conclusion that it meant Lizzo was dating someone. The two were spotted at Craig’s yet again for her 34th birthday party on April 26.

During an April 18 interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Cohen asked Lizzo whether she was still involved with the then-mystery guy. After laughing, she responded, “Yeah, whatever, yeah,” before confirming the rumor that he was backstage during her SNL hosting debut. “You get the scoop, don’t you?” she teased. Cohen then asked if it’s difficult being in her shoes while her man doesn’t appear to be a celebrity. After a beat, the “About Damn Time” singer said, “If you have the right person then no. Not at all, it’s not even a factor. It should be mutually supportive no matter what that person does.”

In the past, Lizzo has been pretty private about her love life. At a May 2019 concert, she revealed the line, “new man on the Minnesota Vikings,” on her hit single “Truth Hurts” is about someone from her hometown from Detroit. But that’s about the closest she’s gotten to revealing anything about her dating history.

She has, however, been very vocal about the importance of self-love and not needing a relationship to feel whole or fulfilled, even while dating Wright. While she’s “not a polyamorous person,” Lizzo told Vanity Fair that she doesn’t like to abide by traditional rules of monogamy in regards to her independence. “How wonderful would it be to be this complete independent person and to come together to make two complete independent people?” she said. “Not that whole ‘You complete me, you're my other half.’ No. I'm whole, and you're incredible too. We're like the mirror image of each other. We're connected. But that doesn't mean I was incomplete when I met him.”

Since going official with Wright, Lizzo has been consistently sharing how “in love” she is with her man. But in her documentary Love, Lizzo, which dropped on HBO Max on Nov. 24, the Grammy-winner gave fans a fuller glimpse into the depth of her relationship with Wright. She shared her on-again, off-again relationship with Wright through the years. “It hurt because I loved him. But honestly, I don’t think I was ready for love,” she said. On why she included him, she told Glamour on Dec. 1, “He’s very important to not just my personal life, but who I am as a creator.”

During her Dec. 12 The Howard Stern Show appearance, the “2 Be Loved” singer elaborated on just how strong her feelings for Wright were in the past. “With him, it was different because if you love something and you let it go and if it’s meant to be it comes back to you. And we both let it go because we both had a lot going on in our lives.” Fortunately, they rekindled that connection “when the time was right” and “recently” had “the talk.” “We just recently were like, ‘We together. This is official.’” She added, “We’re very much locked in.”

However, the pair’s recent social media behavior could be pointing to a different story. Though Lizzo liked one of Wright’s posts in December and dropped a tongue-out emoji in the comments section, Wright hasn’t liked any of Lizzo’s posts since November. On Nov. 25, Wright shared a clip from his standup comedy set where he joked about God probably being a woman because God is “jealous,” which could take on a more revelatory meaning since both are known to take creative inspiration from their personal lives.

On Dec. 25, Lizzo posted a cryptic Christmas greeting mentioning “wild plot twists.” “It’s been a weird year. Ups and downs and wild plot twists. All I can say is: hold on to the ones you love and expect the unexpected. Eat something good and give someone a hug today,” the singer wrote.

And as of Dec. 27, the two no longer seem to be following each other on Instagram. It’s unclear if that points to trouble in paradise or if the two are just secure enough not to keep tabs on each other’s social media activity. Lizzo hasn’t updated fans on her relationship status though so here’s to hoping their relationship is still good as hell.
