Russell Howard’s Dog Played A Surprising Role In His Wedding

And the congregation was no doubt stunned by how it turned out.

When Russell Howard appeared on the Great British Bake-off’s Stand Up To Cancer charity special, one thing was made clear. The comic is better at stand-up than he is at patisserie cheffing. Who knew? Though there was little danger of becoming Star Baker (just cast your minds back to the moving Choux pastry sculpture he made of himself, his wife, and their dog Archie), fans of the Bristolian comedian were left wondering who he’s married to. His showstopper certainly helped to paint a vivid picture of his partner.

Though Howard is relatively private when it comes to his personal life, he previously revealed that his wife, Cerys Morgan, is an NHS consultant, specialising in geriatrics. When the pandemic hit, Howard went to spend lockdown with his parents in Bath, so that Morgan could safely treat COVID-19 patients on the frontlines of the NHS, while living in their London home with a group of other key workers.

“It’s very weird at the beginning because you just feel such unbelievable pride but such fear as well,” he told The Guardian. “You see the nurses and the doctors in the full PPE gear. And it’s sort of bewildering to think that that’s your wife as well.”

First meeting in 2004 through Howard’s actor sibling Kerry, Howard and Morgan dated for fifteen years before finally tying the knot. "I'd rather not speak about her because she has a proper job, and I am a clown,” he once told The Telegraph.

Morgan is a regular on Twitter, mostly sharing her experiences in the NHS, her latest hikes, and cute snaps of the couple’s dog, Archie. Though she rarely posts directly about her husband, she did back Howard up when he was accused of defamation after calling Tory MP Philip Davies a “windbag” in 2016, and shared the news of the allegations being thrown out.

The couple married in 2019, with Howard proposing in Japan the previous year. As he told talk show host Jonathan Ross, it was a slightly unusual engagement in that, just three hours later, he left his partner to take part in a sumo fight.

I had to go out thinking, this could be the last time I see her,” he joked. The wedding itself was a raucous affair: “Our dog was the ring-bearer, the people’s prince, Archie. When they pronounced us man and wife my dog went [loud retching noise]… he didn’t approve.”
