The "A Day Without A Woman" strike event is set to take place on Wednesday, March 8, and if you’re planning on participating in the rallies and marches, you’re probably already brainstorming some funny Women’s Strike sign ideas. It might seem difficult to top the hilarious, attention-grabbing placards that came out of January’s Women’s March — the bar was set pretty dang high with clever protest puns, empowering images, handmade placards, puppets, and some pretty epic costumes — but that doesn’t mean our creativity has peaked when it comes to getting important messages across.
The "Day Without A Woman" on International Women’s Day will make a powerful statement on the incredible value of women in the workplace along with shining a light on the history of economic inequity and harassment. As the organizers behind the Women’s March explain, the strike focuses on “equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity.” On March 8, protesters can participate in the demonstration in a number of ways including wearing red, boycotting businesses (except for those owned by women and minorities), and taking the day off from any type of labor.
While gender equality is a serious issue, your protest sign doesn't have to be solemn. The strike is also meant to celebrate women, so feel free to employ your wit when coming up with your empowering statement as to why you are striking. Nearly a century after the ratification of the 19th Amendment, we are still fighting to protect women's rights and achieve economic equality. To highlight this sad fact, think of getting a little historical with your protest sign design. A new take on "bread and roses" would be an excellent nod to our feminist foremothers; or, a little modern-day suffrage makes a pretty strong WTF statement.

From memorable protest signs to the viral #TrumpDrSeuss that exploded on Twitter in October, rhyming phrases can be an excellent basis for a sign. You never know when a particularly catchy sign could even become a rallying chant.

Statistics Don't Lie
Drawing inspiration from this sign comparing Trump's approval rating with a terrible, terrible movie, the Women's Strike is the perfect opportunity to draw attention to, say, some of the shocking gender wage gap statistics out there. White women typically earning 79 percent that which white men make, with the number steadily dropping for women of color. Highlight these stats in a humorous way (how do they compare to Paul Blart, Mall Cop?), and your sign will make people laugh. Or cry. Or both.

Want to create a relatable last-minute sign? Look to the internet for comedic inspiration and use a trending meme to get your point across. Just think of all the amazing ways Salt Bae, side-eyeing Michelle Obama, Roll Safe, and White Guy Blinking could be used to make a political statement about gender inequality. The possibilities are endless!
