11 Weird Shoes That Are Actually Really Cool

by Rosie Narasaki

When it comes to footwear, sometimes, it's fun to go with something classic... and sometimes, it's fun to go with something that's not. After all, there are tons of weird shoes out there that are actually really cool and completely worth taking for a spin around the block. Yes, furry rubber sandals might seem counterintuitive at first glance, and velcro for adults might seem like a step backwards into childhood, but then again? There's a reason why these strange styles are so popular.

When you think about it, trends come and go, but there's never been a shortage of weird shoes in the world. Sure, mules will always live in a strange purgatory between clunky clogs and strappy sandals, and it might take a while to get used to the idea of embellished velvet, but sometimes, it's important to take a few steps outside of your comfort zone — and if that's something you're interested in, look no further: because this list has got pretty much every type of weird-but-worth it shoe out there.

So, from glitter block heels, to pointe shoe-inspired ribbons, to strange boot/sandal hybrids, let's take a look at some majorly weird shoes... that are actually really cool.

1. Sam Edelman Women's Henley Platform Sandal

Whether or not you missed them, it's looking like dramatic flatforms are officially back.

2. ASOS SHOW UP Pointed Glitter Heels

Contrast glitter block heels should be a bigger deal, shouldn't they?

3. Puma by Rihanna Faux Fur Slides

You can't exactly wear them in the shower, the way you can with most Puma slides — but they do happen to be super fabulous (and comfy!) so there's that.

4. MR by Man Repeller Embellished Velvet Platform Sandals

These shoes are wild AF, but the Man Repeller knows what's up: embellished shoes are blowing up in a major way, so you'll look like you waltzed in right off the runway.

5. Zara Lace-Up Ballet Flats

This season, the ballet trend is on, so you might want to give these ballet slipper-inspired flats a second look.

6. Topshop Netting Shoe Boots

They're not quite sandals, they're not quite boots. But look at it this way — even if your heels and toes get cold, the rest of your feet will stay warm, and you'll look very stylish.

7. Miu Miu Embellished Satin and Shearling Sandals

Satin and shearling? It's not logical, but it's fly as hell.

8. Puma Fierce Core Training Shoes

They're kind of weird looking, but you know what? They're comfy, lightweight, and they're slip-ons! Plus, they've got the Kylie Jenner seal of approval...

9. Miss KG Goldie Pom Pom Ankle Strap Point Flat Shoes

Pom poms are a great way to get in on the fur trend currently making the rounds.

10. Jeffrey Campbell Viggio Brocade Bootie

Printed boots are definitely something of a statement piece, but the extra coordinating effort they take is well worth the challenge.

11. Topshop Razzmatazz Facet Mules

Mules are everywhere right now, and for good reason: They can be dressed up or down, and they're super easy to slip on as you run out the door.

What do you think? Will you be giving any of these weird types of shoes a try?
