13 St Patrick's Day Movies To Stream On Netflix

GKIDS

When it comes to holidays, there are certain celebrations that are far more associated with film than others. For instance, everyone has their favorite Christmas movies and Halloween movies, as there are plenty to choose from. Heck, even Thanksgiving has a couple classics to call its own. But not every holiday is so lucky. Like St. Patrick's Day. The Irish festival has never been a big enough holiday to gain much attention from Hollywood, but that doesn't mean there aren't any movies to watch on March 17; you just have to think outside the box. And by doing so, you'll find plenty of St. Patrick's Day movies to stream on Netflix.

Now, none of these movies are technically about St. Patrick's Day, but that doesn't mean they won't get you in the holiday spirit. Virtually every film on this list was either produced in Ireland, takes place in Ireland, or both, meaning you'll be exposed to some true Irish culture other than Leprechauns, shamrocks, and green beer (which, by the way, is an American abomination). So take a look at the list of 13 films below, all of which can be found on Netflix, and start your St. Patrick's Day celebration a little early this year.

1

'The Secret Of The Kells'

A fantastic animated film that incorporates loads of Irish folklore.

2

'Life’s A Breeze'

The Irish are known for their sense of humor, as this comedy proves.

3

'Five Minutes Of Heaven'

Is there a more iconic Irish actor out there than Liam Neeson?

4

'Art Of Conflict'

Northern Ireland is part of the U.K., Ireland is independent. Both nations are on the same island. This doc examines the violent conflict between them, a conflict that raged just decades ago.

5

'The Irish Pub'

Odds are you'll be visiting an Irish pub for a pint o' Guinness this March 17th, so why not learn more about them?

6

'Hostage To The Devil'

The Irish and Catholicism are inextricably linked, and this spooky documentary looks at one Irish priest who specialized in exorcisms.

7

'Glassland'

This intense Irish drama shows that Ireland's indie film scene is seriously underrated.

8

'From The Dark'

The Irish countryside can be a scary place.

9

'The Siege Of Jadotville'

This true story about a small UN unit of Irish soldiers who were attacked while on a peacekeeping mission in the Congo in 1961 will give you a new appreciation for the phrase "Fighting Irish."

10

'Sing Street'

1980s Dublin seems like a pretty cool place.

11

'The Hallow'

Irish folklore is full of terrifying fairies that wouldn't exactly be at home in a Disney movie.

12

'Leap Year'

Sure, this is technically about a different holiday, if that's what you want to call it, but it's still heavy on the Irishness.

13

'Drinking Buddies'

There's nothing Irish about this film, but it is about drinking, and that's something that appeals to basically every St. Paddy's Day reveler.
