How To Get Polyjuice Potion, Marauder's Maps, & More Magical Items IRL

by Emma Oulton
GrimSweetness/Etsy

I'm not going to lie: there are a lot of amazing things in the Harry Potter universe that us Muggles will never experience. We'll never fly on a broomstick; we'll (probably) never wear an invisibility cloak; we'll never cast a magical Patronus from the end of our wand that can protect us in times of darkness. But all hope isn't lost: there are some magical inventions from the wizarding world that you can now buy with Muggle money.

Harry, Hermione, and Ron are no longer the only lucky people who can have incredible experiences like getting accepted to Hogwarts, or reading their fortune in the bottom of a teacup, or wearing a cozy Christmas jumper knitted by Molly Weasley. All these things and more are open to you — even if you have the magical abilities of a Squib. (Don't feel bad about it, we can't all be magic.) All you need is one of the items on this list (and a little bit of imagination), and suddenly it'll feel like you've stepped straight off the Hogwarts Express and into the wizarding world.

So next payday, splash some of your hard-earned Galleons on these incredible, enchanted objects, and never feel like a Muggle again.

1

Your Hogwarts Acceptance Letter

Warner Bros

Personalized Hogwarts Acceptance Letter, $37, Candy Craft Studios (Etsy)

It might not be hand-delivered by a half-giant to the middle of a lake, but you can get your hands on an incredibly realistic and personalized Hogwarts acceptance letter, complete with a school supply list, and your ticket for the Hogwarts Express.

2

A Magic Wand

Warner Bros

Harry Potter Remote Control Wand, $49, The Noble Collection

Gone are the days when you used to play at being Harry Potter on the playground using sticks as wands. Now, you can buy beautiful and intricate wands, remote control wands, light-up wands; the array of magic wands on sale these days is almost as impressive as Ollivander's own collection. This wand that works as a remote for your TV is particularly magical.

3

Butterbeer

Warner Bros.

You can drink a cold, creamy cup of delicious Butterbeer when you visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida or Orlando — but if you can't afford to splash out on a theme park ticket every time you're craving a drink, did you know you can just ask your Starbucks barista to make you one? This secret menu item is made from a Creme Frappuccino with caramel syrup, toffee nut syrup and caramel drizzle — or you can get the hot version with cinnamon dolce syrup and salted caramel bits on top as well!

4

An Enchanted Teacup With Fortune-Telling Leaves

The Grim Teacup, $20, EpicSoles (Etsy)

Professor Trelawney's not the only one who can read your fortune in tea-leaves. With this enchanted teacup from Etsy store Epic Soles, you can glimpse your future every time you finish a cup of tea.

5

Polyjuice Potion

Polyjuice Potion, $18, GrimSweetness on Etsy

Even without Hermione on hand to mix it up, you can still have your very own Polyjuice Potion on display in your living room. The Etsy store Grim Sweetness makes incredible magical potions that swirl and change colors — convincing everyone who visits you that you are perfectly capable of turning them into a canary.

6

Omnioculars

Amazon

Smart Binocular with 1800p Video, $425, Amazon

Wizard binoculars (Omnioculars) do so much more than Muggle binoculars. All ours do is help us see a bit further into the distance; Omnioculars can replay action, put things into slow motion, and even show you a play-by-play breakdown of the Quidditch match you're watching. Incredible. But now, Sony has managed to invent something every bit as magical: binoculars that can record and replay what they're looking at.

7

The Marauder's Map

Warner Bros

Marauder's Map, $30, Amazon

The Marauder's Map shows you where all your friends are at every moment of the day, and now Snapchat can do that for you too! With the new Snap Map feature, you can see exactly where your friends are — as long as they're happy to be seen, that is.

But if you're after something a bit more authentic-looking, there are plenty of Marauder's Map replicas for sale on Etsy.

8

A Toilet That Takes You To The Ministry Of Magic

iDecalworks/Amazon

This Way Harry Pottery Decal, $5, Amazon

One way in to the super-secret Ministry of Magic headquarters is disguised in a public bathroom. Visitors have to climb inside one of the toilets and flush themselves down, which is certainly an unconventional way to get to work. With this hilarious Harry Potter decal for your toilet, your journey to the office could get a lot more interesting.

9

A Weasley Jumper

Warner Bros.

Custom Weasley Sweaters, $175, WardrobesandWalls on Etsy

Molly Weasley's hand-knitted jumpers are a lot cozier than the wizard's robes that Harry and Ron usually have to wear. The ones available online might not have been knitted by Molly herself, but they've got just as much charm.

10

A Time Turner

Harry Potter World/Amazon

Harry Potter Time-Turner Necklace, $50, Universal Studios

For the duration of Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione was wearing a Time Turner hidden around her neck, and nobody even noticed. Your Time Turner necklace might not be quite as effective at managing your workload, but if you show it off proudly, I'm willing to bet you can conjure up a few more hours in your day to chat to all the Harry Potter fans who stop to talk to you.

11

A Remembrall

Warner Bros.

Remembrall Reproduction, $19, Universal Studios

Remembralls light up red when you've forgotten something — but even the wizarding versions are pretty useless when you can't remember what it is you've forgotten. The Remembralls from Universal Studios work pretty much the same way: push a button to light them up red when there's something you need to remember — and then try your hardest not to forget what it is.

12

A Revealer

Warner Bros.

Invisible Ink Spy Pen, $3, Amazon

In the Harry Potter universe, a Revealer can reveal messages that have been written in enchanted secret ink — and Muggles can totally play at that game, too. With this invisible ink pen, you can write messages that nobody else can see, until you use the magical blacklight to reveal the hidden message.

13

Secrecy Sensors

Warner Bros.

USB Polygraph, $100, Amazon

Secrecy sensors vibrate whenever they detect concealment and lies — just like a Muggle lie detector. But did you know that lie detectors aren't just for wizards and detectives? In fact, you can buy your own lie detector on Amazon, and use it to make sure that none of your relatives are hiding any secret magical powers they're not telling anybody about.

14

All Those Magical Sweets

Warner Bros.

Who wants Smarties and Jelly Beans when you can have Bertie Botts' Every Flavor Beans, or Exploding Bon Bons, or Fizzing Whizzbees? The Muggle world of candy has always seemed a little underwhelming: nothing pops or explodes or jumps around. But no longer! Anything that Harry can buy off the trolley, you can buy too — from Chocolate Frogs to Jelly Slugs. Yum.
