Last Minute Golden Globes Party Ideas

by Kiersten Hickman

The 2017 Golden Globes are just around the corner (set to air Sunday, Jan. 8!), which means it's time to hop in full party-planning mode. If it's your turn to host this iconic party within your friend group this year, and yet you're not the best party planner in the world, then these Golden Globe party ideas are exactly what you need to bedazzle your friends.

Now, for some background: the Golden Globes is an award show hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) which awards 25 different achievements — 14 in movies, and 11 in television. The first Golden Globes took place in 1944, which makes this the 74th Golden Globes ceremony. Keep all of this in mind, because you'll want it for your trivia game-planning later.

Some A-Listers that you'll certainly see on the red carpet this year include Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, Andrew Garfield, Joel Edgerton, Denzel Washington, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, Ryan Gossling, Hugh Grant, Ryan Reynolds, Octavia Spencer, Dev Patel, and much, much more.

The award show will take place on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. Red carpet coverage will start at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT), and the award show begins at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT).

Even if you only have a few hours to get this party together, no need to fret — everything you need for a lit Golden Globes party is here.

Golden globe trivia

Start off the night with snacks and and some previous Golden Globe trivia! Pull up some facts from the past and see who knows their stuff.

Best timed speech

Giving a speech always looks glamorous, but we know the time limits are always a difficult one to face on the stage. Have your guests try it out! Give them an allotted time to give a speech for their, you know, awesomeness. Have the other guests judge the speech based on timeliness, clarity, poise, and elegancy. Winner is the speech with the highest rank!

A guess sheet to fill out beforehand

Make a set of ballot sheets for people to fill out before the awards even begin! They can choose their predictions, and the one with the highest number of correct predictions wins! You can get the full list of Golden Globe 2017 nominees on the website.

Award the winners

Make sure to give your winners of these activities their very own golden globes for being smart, attentive, Golden Globe fans.
