Hermione's Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, or S.P.E.W., was tragically cut from the Harry Potter films. Not only did leaving it out mean cutting an endearing aspect of Hermione's character, it also meant cutting out the hilarious scene of Dobby showing up wearing all of the knitwear she'd been leaving for the House Elves to free them.

Peeves, the Hogwarts trickster, was cut from the movies, which isn't really all that surprising when you consider the fact that academic life at Hogwarts faded into the background as the franchise continued. Still, Peeves was a crucial part of Hogwarts for the six years Harry spent there, and it would have been nice to see him from time to time.

Winky was MIA in the Harry Potter movies, which is awful and wrong. Give fans the drunk house elf scene they deserve.

Neville's parents were briefly mentioned in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but their most impactful scene from the books comes in The Half Blood Prince, when Harry sees Neville visiting them at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. It was heartbreaking to read about Neville's relationship with his parents, and the touching scene would have made a great addition to the films.

Percy Weasley's betrayal of the family, when he sides with Fudge and the Ministry after Voldemort returns, is alluded to in The Order of the Phoenix, but it really didn't get the substance it deserved.

Dumbledore's threatening howler to Mrs. Dursley didn't make it to the movies, which is a shame because not only did it show that Mrs. Dursley actually cared for Harry, it also showed that she knew more than she let on.

Teddy is essentially written out of the last Harry Potter movie and fans demand an explanation.

Fred's tragic death occurs off camera in The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and that's a disservice to the fans who loved him and the Weasley family plot line, as the scene also provided a bit of redemption for Percy as well.

Yes, there were plenty of familiar faces who returned to Hogwarts to help defeat Dumbledore in Deathly Hallows Part 2 (we missed you, Oliver Wood!). However, the cameos were all blink-and-you-miss-it, not the emotional reunions fans cried over in the book.

Nearly Headless Nick was more than just a cooky ghost in the books, he was an ally and a friend. Showing the Deathday Party would have honored his relationship with Harry in a nice way on screen. It also would have been cool to see all the ghosts running around.

Quidditch matches were such huge parts of the book, but they were barely in the movies. Shame.

Dudley's emotional goodbye to Harry in The Deathly Hallows is his character's last moment, and it's a doozy. Dudley may have been a mean, spoiled bully his entire life, but this scene revealed that he saw Harry as a brother, and it's a touching moment that would have made everybody in the movie theater cry.

Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs never got their due on the big screen — sad.

Squibs and the fact that there are wizards who can't really perform magic is a super interesting subplot throughout the Harry Potter books. It would have been great to give that backstory to Filch and to Mrs. Figg.

Molly facing off against a Bogart that becomes her greatest fear, seeing her children dead, is just a perfect scene that really should have been in the movies. Might it have traumatized a few young kids in the audience? Sure, but it would also have helped raise the stakes and given more emotional depth to the beloved Mrs. Weasley.

There are Harry Potter movie fans that will never know what happened with the Riddle and Gaunt families, and that's almost as scary as Voldemort's face.

The decision to take out Rita Skeeter's Goblet of Fire subplot — that she's an unregistered animagus and gets all her scoops as a literally bug — makes sense, but it's still too bad. It's not that fans care a lot about Rita Skeeter, but that the story of how Hermione figured out her secret and trapped her is so badass.

The importance of the prophecy, as well as its potential triviality, is overlooked in the movies, which never explain Trelawney's importance to Dumbledore and Harry, or how Neville could have easily been the Boy Who Lived.

There's a lot of details about Sirius and Harry's relationship that were left on the cutting room floor, including the scene in which Sirius gives Harry the magic mirror that would allow them to communicate in Order of the Phoenix.

All of these storylines and scenes deserved a little more on screen loving, but in the end, most HP fans will agree that the movies did a pretty good job. Hollywood, please do not the greenlight Potter remakes any time soon.
