Considering we're in the depths of winter, it may seem bizarre to discuss the 2017 bathing suit trends for spring break, but as with anything in fashion, one must always look ahead. Of course, you may dwell somewhere that doesn't truly experience seasons, your home may be in the height of summer right now, or your student days may be long behind you. But, there's no need to worry, because these bathing suit trends will help to keep anyone in vogue during the first quarter of this year.

Fashion forward students, who are already planning their spring break, will be pleased to get a heads up on bathing suit trends to keep an eye on. You could always go for an athletic, scarlet swimsuit à la the babes of Baywatch, especially considering the new movie hits theatres this year. However, if you like to change up your appearance like a style chameleon, you probably want to discover the upcoming bathing suit trends on the horizon.

You only get a handful of spring breaks, so you may as well take a risk and have fun with fashion, by experimenting with a new style of swimsuit or something a little different to what you'd normally go for. By all means, you should feel comfortable in what you're wearing, but it's good to flex the barriers of your comfort zone every so often.

So I spoke to GoodLooks fashion stylist Ali Call, about the bathing suit trends for spring break 2017.

1. Printed With Lace-Up Details

"The swimwear industry has clicked into the fast fashion track and that was evident in the strong, immediate correlation between spring '17 runway trends and the swimwear market," says Call in an email to Bustle.

"The lace-up details prevalent in the contemporary market have spilled over to swimwear, with floral versions taking on a festival vibe," she explains.

2. Ruffles

"Ruffles are one of the strongest trends on the runway for spring '17 RTW (Valentino, Altuzarra, and Rosie Assoulin) and we see that reflected in swimwear, with ruffled shoulder straps and flounce details on bottoms," says Call.

3. Bardot Style Suits

"As an extension of the ruffle trend," says Call, "bare shoulders are also emerging in swimwear, with Bardot-esque styles that look like they came straight from Dolce and Gabbana." It appears classic swimming costumes never go out of style.

4. Metallics

"Metallics remain strong for spring '17," explains Call, "as seen at Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen, and the deep plunge metallic one-piece swimsuit perfectly reflects this futuristic movement." Metallic bathing suits are also an easy way to amp up the glam on the beach.

5. Cut-Outs

"Cut-outs, which were prevalent at Louis Vuitton and Alexander Wang, continue to reign supreme, and the swimwear market is fully capitalizing on this trend with both symmetrical and asymmetrical cut-out versions available this season," explains Call. Cut-outs are super fun, but remember to apply your sunscreen otherwise you might end up with an unusually patterned bod.

Whichever style you choose to try out over your spring break, remember to have fun, stay safe and hydrated, and make some awesome memories!
