Even though we're a couple months deep into 2017, it's never too late to make some New Year's resolutions — especially if they involve new sex positions to try. I'll be the first to admit that I have no issue sticking with the basics when it comes to my own sex life: if you know what works for you, why switch things up all the time? Giving underrated sex positions the credit they deserve is important, but so is branching out and making an effort to incorporate new things into your bedroom routine. After all, how will you discover new sources of pleasure if you don't change things up sometimes?

Everyone has different desires, kinks, and positions of choice, which is what makes sex so much fun. There are endless possibilities, so even if you've been with the same partner for a decade, there are ways you can make sex feel brand new and hot as hell. Maybe you want to bring toys into the bedroom, try out role-playing, or venture into the world of BDSM — whatever you're into, just have honest conversations with your partner about those fantasies, and decide together what you'd like to try.

If you're feeling the need to be a little more adventurous with your position work in 2017, here are seven juicy, out-of-the-box sex positions to add to your sexual resume this year.

1

X Marks The Spot

Sometimes I forget that having sex in the bedroom doesn't mean both people have to physically be on the bed. If you're looking for deeper penetration, you can use a bed or table to your advantage, lying back while your partner enters you while standing. This angle will help your pelvises align, allowing your partner to get deeper; plus, crossing your legs makes for more tightness and feel-good friction.

2

Modified Doggy

Although it's hard to beat the from-behind view of traditional doggy style sex, this modified version is even more intimate. While your partner enters you from behind, you can change things up slightly by lying flat on the bed, or resting on your elbows as opposed to your hands. With your pelvis pressed against the bed, you'll create more friction on your clitoris, and the angle allows your partner to get even deeper. (Plus, it gives your wrists a much-deserved break.)

3

Lotus

Traditional woman-on-top is always fun, but so is mid-sex snuggling with your partner. The Lotus position allows you and your partner to wrap your legs around each other and get super close, creating more than one kind of heat. It's a super passionate position that gives plenty of opportunity for intimate touching and making out during the deed.

4

69

I feel like it's more common to hear teens saying "LOL 69, amirite?" than to hear it lauded as the genuinely hot sex position that it is — which is a damn shame. Whether you prefer woman-on-top 69 or side-by-side, both are opportunities to turn foreplay into the main event. Oral sex is super intimate, and there's nothing hotter than you and your partner both giving each other that kind of pleasure at the same time.

5

The Splitter

This position is all about creating the perfect angle to get the deep penetration you both crave. For ultra-hot orgasms all around, put just one leg up on your partner's shoulder while they enter you from a kneeling position. Plus, the Splitter position also gives you plenty of access to the clitoris to really push things over the edge.

6

Standing

Caroline Wurtzel/Bustle

Standing positions can be tricky for couples with a height difference, but use walls and furniture to your advantage — it will be worth it. With one leg up around your partner's hips, they can enter you from an entirely unique angle.

Bonus: it's a great position for quickies when you just don't have time to make it into the bedroom. And we all know that urgency = major hotness.

7

The Bridge

If you start off in missionary, you can easily move into the Bridge position by having your partner scoot your hips closer to his own while he kneels in front of you. At this angle, your pelvises will be more closely aligned, creating maximum depth of penetration. Plus, the arched-back view is super unique and hot for both parties.

If you ask me, making sex resolutions each year is an awesome way to expand your horizons and bring yourself tons of pleasure. No matter what your bedroom habits looked like in years past, it's never too late to make a vow to have hotter, better sex in 2017.
