9 Animated Movies On Netflix To Watch ASAP

Paramount Pictures

There will never come a time when there are too many animated movies on Netflix — or too many animated movies, period. Whether it's traditional, hand-drawn animation, computer animation, stop motion, claymation, or any mix thereof, animated movies will always be a good thing to have around. As animation technology advances continue, animated movies gets more and more detailed, and popular. No longer limited to just Disney and Pixar, animated films run the gambit from kids' movies to adult dramas and everything in between. And, lucky for us, Netflix has a healthy library of animated movies to watch anytime we damn well please.

Netflix has an overwhelming amount of films available to stream, and a majority of their animated content is for children. Some of it is definitely of the must-watch variety, but it's the more adult animation films that are truly worth seeking out, especially for those of you who were raised on Toy Story and Mulan. Among this list of nine animated movies on Netflix to watch ASAP are a few Oscar-nominees, some movies you've never heard of, some blockbuster hits, and even a few cult classics. With animation, you really never know what you might find.

1

'Zootopia'

Zootopia is a kids' movie with a very serious message, and an adorably feminist bunny heroine. Be sure to watch the newly Oscar-nominated film before the 2017 Oscars.

2

'The Little Prince'

Netflix's The Little Prince features a gorgeous mix of animation styles to really bring Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's French classic to life. If you're a fan of animation, it's a must watch.

3

'Curious George'

Curious George, the 2006 feature film based on the children's book, is basically one long music video — the movie features a few original Jack Johnson songs — but it's adorable, colorful and just all around fun.

4

'The Secret Of Kells'

Secret of Kells, nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film, is a tale of magic, illusion and adventure. If you're sick of animated movies that look like video games, this one's for you.

5

'World Of Tomorrow'

World of Tomorrow is a very unique short film about a girl who is taken into the distant future. The film made a splash for it's almost impressionistic animation when it was released in 2015, and is definitely worth 20 minutes of your time.

6

'Waking Life'

Directed by Richard Linklater (Boyhood), Waking Life is an R-rated animated film about a man and his philosophical musings. Starring Ethan Hawke, the movie is about as far away from Disney animation as you can get.

7

Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection

If you always miss the shorts at the movie theater, then Disney's Animation Studios Short Films Collection is an absolute must.

8

'Extraordinary Tales'

This creepy anthology movie uses five different styles of animation to tell five Edgar Allen Poe stories. It's about as ambitious as the stories are terrifying.

9

'Bee Movie'

Bee Movie, that weird animated film starring Jerry Seinfeld about a woman who literally falls in love with a bee, is on Netflix. It sure isn't great, but if you want to understand all those memes on tumblr, you should probably watch it.

Here's hoping Netflix gets more animation content in the future, as long as it's not Bee Movie 2.
