They’ve been teasing this moment for quite some time, and now it's finally here: Last week, Aly & AJ released “Take Me,” their first single in a decade. (OK, Aly and AJ Michalka did put out music together under the name 78violet as recently as 2013, but the duo called Aly & AJ hasn’t released an album since 2007’s Insomniatic.) Well, I’ll be a rare butterfly collector who also happens to own a dairy (how did that Cow Belles reference treat ya?). I suppose being patient really does pay off every now and again. The Michalka sisters’ highly anticipated comeback track will appear on their upcoming EP.

“Take Me” is an ’80s synth pop fever dream, a balmy dance party overlooking an ocean that’s wearing the moon’s rays like body glitter. Within the first 10 seconds, you'll be hooked, and before you know it, you’ve embarked on a sumptuous and vivid sonic journey. “Take Me” lives up to the legacy created by “Potential Breakup Song,” “Rush,” and “Chemicals React.” Since the early '00s, the duo has been so great at making catchy music, and the Michalkas' latest offering is the latest reminder of how awesome they are.

Back in June, “Take Me” apparently appeared on Spotify, only to be taken down, like, five seconds later. But last Thursday evening, it reappeared online; the official version was ready to run into our ears’ open arms. And several days later, it’s still here and it’s still magnificent and, oh man, does that chorus still slam.

If you haven’t already, please give “Take Me” a listen. And hey, if you have experienced it already, you'll probably want to cue it up again. Maybe throw it on your summer '17 playlist — it's not too late. It's never too late to add a Michalka masterpiece to the mix.

And if you feel like playing it a hundred times in a row, that’s more than understandable. Follow that urge. Let it pull you in, spin you ‘round, and lift your feet right off the ground.
