You Can Now See Amy Schumer Live In A Whole New Way

The incredibly talented and downright hilarious Amy Schumer is headed to Broadway, and it seems like the type of gig that's perfect for her. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schumer is set to star in Meteor Shower, a play written by the equally hilarious Steve Martin and directed by Jerry Zaks. Schumer will star alongside Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti, and Alan Tudyk. The show, which opens this coming November, will be both Schumer's and Key's Broadway debut.

Prior to it's upcoming run on Broadway, Meteor Shower had productions last year at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego and at Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, according to The New York Times. In the San Diego production it was Jenna Fischer (from The Office) who played the role of Corky, which is the character Schumer is set to portray. The play is described as a comedy (no surprise there) about two couples in Ojai, California, and it takes place in the year 1993. The group gathers for dinner and stargazing, but find themselves in a "marital free fall" while smoldering meteors tear through the evening sky. Sounds like an interesting, and funny AF premise, and the play has received great reviews so far. The Connecticut Critics Circle even said that the show was "so funny that one can’t help from laughing uncontrollably."

Schumer shared the exciting news about her Broadway debut with fans via Instagram. "#SteveMartin wrote a hilarious play," she said in a caption accompanying a photo of Martin, "and I get to do it with @keeganmic @laurabenanti @alantudyk." It certainly seems like Schumer is excited about her Broadway debut, as she should be.

Although she hasn't done Broadway before, I can't help but feel like this is going to be a great gig for Schumer. She's used to performing on stage and in front of big audiences, as she's been doing stand up comedy for years and has a degree in theater from Towson University. So combine Schumer's great stage presence with her hilarious delivery of lines — that were written by Martin — plus a talented cast and crew, and you've got the makings of a great show.

Meteor Shower will only run on Broadway for 12 weeks, with previews starting on Nov. 1. Tickets are available now if you're in the NYC area and want to see Schumer make her Broadway debut.
