'Big Little Lies' Season 2 Would Expand On Bonnie & Celeste's Pasts

I've got some really great news! Big Little Lies Season 2 could really be happening and we may even have a hint at what it could be about. This is really an epic piece of information for fans of the hit HBO miniseries that details the lives and intricate inter-minglings of five women living in Monterey, California.

The huge reveal came in a recent interview in which, Liane Moriarty, the author of the novel upon which the series is based, told Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald that she has been approached by the show's producers for a possible sequel of the ratings winning series. She said,

"I have started to think about ways this could continue. The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn't write a new book but perhaps a new story and then we'll see what happens."

I don't know about you guys, but I was really sad when the show's finale concluded. And while it was a wonderful conclusion to Seaosn One, I felt that there was more that needed to be divulged about the lives of Celeste, Madeline, Bonnie, Jane and Renata. I specifically want to see what will happen next for Celeste, following her abusive husband Perry's death outside of the school's fundraiser.

His demise would ultimately become the defining moment of the show and serve as the bonding point for the group of ladies. Although it was the pinnacle of the dramatic tale, the incident would bring the storyline to a close, as it did in the novel, leaving many questions unanswered about the future of the women of Monterey. However with fans, like myself, anxiously longing for more, it sounds like the show's front runners are scrambling for ideas in an effort to bring a sequel to awaiting viewers.

Moriarty hinted that Bonnie's role could be possibly expanded on screen, as there was more to her story in the book. She explained,

"The obvious thing is, first of all, I think we could bring in more of Bonnie's story from the book."

And just as I had hoped, the novelist also discussed the possibility of exploring more of Celeste's life following Perry's death. She said,

"That's the question that's also a really interesting thing, when you've been through a relationship like that. How do you feel now? How would she feel? She's grieving. She's still grieving for the end of a terrible relationship and I think that would be a really interesting thing to explore. So there's a whole lot of different storylines."

The show's executive producer and lead star, Reese Witherspoon, has also expressed her support for the project on Facebook Live, encouraging fans to reach out to the book's author for ideas. She explained,

"We've been talking with the writer, and you guys should Facebook Liane Moriarty and tell her how much you want to see Big Little Lies 2. That would be good. She's thinking about ideas, and so we would love to hear ideas."

However, not everyone is on board for BLL's second coming. The show's director and executive producer, Jean-Marc Vallée, totally scoffed at the idea of bringing the miniseries back to life in an interview with Hollywood Reporter. He explained,

"To do a season two, I'm not for it. Let's move on and do something else! If there's an opportunity to reunite with Reese, Nicole and these characters of course, I'll be a part of it, but Big Little Lies is a one-time deal. Big Little Lies 2? Nah. ... We won't give you a season two because it's so good like this. Why spoil it?"

I must admit that the mere thought of the miniseries possibly returning for Season 2 is enough excitement for me. Meanwhile, I'm just going to keep my finger crossed that everyone gets on the same page, and hope that the show returns with the same drama that made it so riveting in Season 1.
