I'm not saying that you should consider becoming a teacher solely for the sake of getting free food via Chipotle's National Teacher Appreciation Day buy one get one free promotion, but I don't know, maybe I am saying exactly that. Sure, there are a lot of noble reasons to become a teacher — being an educator is one of the greatest services you can offer to your community. But getting free food is also a good motivator to do good. Just saying.

Tuesday, May 2, 2017, for one day only, Chipotle will be celebrating teachers with some delish free food. If you're a teacher and have an ID that affirms it — whether you teach at Pre-K or university level, or even if you're a certified home school teacher — you can buy one entree meal and get another free. But the deal only lasts on May 2 from 3 p.m. to close, so you'll want to plan ahead if you'd like a late lunch or dinner at Chipotle. Oh, and don't try to take too much advantage of the deal — it's limited at one free meal per teacher.

So if you are a teacher, you might want to consider surprising one of your co-workers who is unable to get out and buy lunch with a free meal. Burritos, bowls, salads, and tacos all qualify for the promotion. And, if you don't feel like sharing the deal with someone, it might be a good time for you to experiment with the menu. Are you usually a burrito girl with a wandering eye for a taco? This is your chance to try it for free without having to worry about wasting money.

In a press release, a spokesperson for Chipotle said “This is a small — but tasty — gesture from us to them to say thanks for their contributions to our classrooms and communities.” Tasty is right. Teachers work thankless hours around the clock to make sure their student's lives are enriched on their account. So some free food here and there is certainly a small token, but a kind gesture nonetheless.

If you're familiar with Chipotle's educational outreach, you might already know that they're pretty involved in different education and literacy programs. Across the country, different Chipotle branches offer reading rewards for local libraries and sponsor different summer reading programs to encourage kids to get excited about reading — especially outside of the school year.
