'The Voice' Winner Chris Blue Is Already Working On His Album

It's imaginably been a whirlwind time for The Voice Season 12 winner Chris Blue since he was announced as the champion during the May 23 season finale. After a season of steadily skillful pop and R&B performances, culminating in the performance of his original song "Money On You" during the finale episodes, Blue is now looking ahead to his exciting future. When he spoke on the phone to Bustle a few days after his big win, he was able to give us a little bit of a hint about what fans could expect from his music going forward. And, yes, there's a Chris Blue album in the works, he says.

After the life-changing experience that was The Voice, Blue is looking forward to getting into the studio and getting back to his life. "We've already kind of started working on the album. I'm used to hard work, so I just hit the ground running." Other than "working hard on the album," Blue says he is also focused on his upcoming wedding in July. And the fact that he's already hard at work on his debut album is just as exciting as his nuptials for fans. In these early stages, with one song most likely appearing (his original song, "Money On You"), all Blue could tell Bustle is that he knows what kind of feeling he hopes the album imparts rather than what kind of sound he might go with.

"For me, it's not even really about the sound," Blue tells Bustle, when asked if he would stick to his established R&B vibe for future work, "as much as it is a response. By response, I mean the response that people get when they hear the music. I want to inspire people. I want people to feel hope."

He continued, "That's the most important thing to me, is the message and how it makes someone feel. If it sounds like a gospel song, that's cool. If it sounds like an R&B song, that's cool. If it sounds like 'Money On You,' that really, really, really cool because I love that song. But the most important thing to me is the message."

"Money On You" was, in a way, Blue's proper introduction to the world as a singer minted on The Voice. While Blue has dedicated his life and his time to music, this funky and pop-infused track was the ushering in of a new era for him, an era as a singer propelled to national stardom on The Voice. But just because he's entering a new phase of his career, don't go thinking this newfound fame has changed who he is on the inside.

"I've been Chris Blue for so long. I don't know if I can say [The Voice has] changed Chris Blue, per se. I'm still the same guy. I still love to laugh, love to have fun, love to joke around," Blue says. And, he may still be the same intrinsically, but that doesn't mean The Voice hasn't taught him a thing or two: "The thing I definitely brought out of [The Voice] was the hard work aspect. I worked really, really hard being here. This was like my world and this is what I'm used to," he says. "I would say the work ethic I definitely gravitated to and appreciate and honor and will always cherish. It will definitely now be a part of my everyday life and routine."

Blue's big win on The Voice is undoubtedly well-deserved and hard-won. After a promising showcase of his talents on TV, it's clear that there's nothing but good things in store for this soulful singer.
