However you feel about her, there's no denying that Chrissy Teigen is one of the most outspoken celebrities. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Teigen continued to be an open book by talking about her drinking habits. The 31-year-old recently recognized that she was drinking too much, too often and decided to give up drinking during her July trip to Bali with husband John Legend and their daughter, Luna. For her to be so candid about a subject that isn't easy to address or share with the entire world is yet another important and potentially influential move from Teigen.

"I was, point blank, just drinking too much," she said. "I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody."

Teigen said her family has a history of alcohol abuse, and she admitted that she "can't just have one drink." The model also became concerned about her drinking because of the medication she is on for postpartum depression and anxiety. As she put it, "alcohol is like the least thing that helps." In March, Teigen revealed her postpartum depression battle with Glamour, which was another instance of her courage in opening up publicity about what could have remained a private topic.

She continued, "I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober, but now I get it. I don't want to be that person. … I have to fix myself." She says that not drinking in Bali was one of the best things she's ever done. "[It was] really, really wonderful. I would wake up feeling amazing. My skin felt amazing. I was just so happy."

Teigen said that nobody ever told her she was drinking too much, but deep down, she knew there was something wrong. She explained, "I knew in my heart it wasn’t right. It makes you very short with people. People think it’s cutesy and fun to go on these boozy brunches, but there’s more to it. I’ve never once been like, 'I’m sure glad I had that boozy brunch!'"

The Lip Sync Battle host is someone who's known for her drunken antics on social media. During the 2017 Super Bowl, she drunk-tweeted from the sporting event. Then, there was that time in 2017 when she shared her post-Grammy drunkenness with everyone. However, Teigen is now challenging the idea that getting drunk has to be part of her persona. She sets the standard for how she's viewed, and she can be whoever she wants to be — with or without alcohol.

She also brings up an important point when discussing "boozy brunches" and the situations, like award shows, she finds herself in where alcohol is free flowing. When it comes to certain events, people have become accustomed to drinking just because that's what you do, but it doesn't have to be that way.

Most likely knowing she'll receive some type of criticism (when doesn't she?), Teigen remains open about herself and her struggles. By addressing this gray area of drinking she could no doubt influence other people who feel the same way. As the Cosmopolitan interview notes, it's unclear if Teigen will continue to not drink or if she's just cutting back on alcohol, but it seems that her trip to Bali was a great way for her to reset her life in a healthier direction.

Talking about drinking too much isn't easy by any means, but it also shows exactly the type of person she is — a brave one.
