ColourPop's New Polishes Are Safe For You & The Planet

by Augusta Statz

ColourPop’s dedicated to being cruelty-free, so it should really come as no surprise that they’re latest products fall in line with their harmless approach to makeup. ColourPop’s polish shades are non-toxic, so they're good for you and the planet. You definitely don’t have to feel guilty about rocking these colorful lacquers.

According to an Instagram post from the brand, their latest line of limited edition nail polishes are 7-free, which means they’re lacking seven potentially harmful chemicals. There’s no toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), triphenyl phosphate (TPHP), or xylene.

In case you’re wondering what this means for your mani, it’s great news because you’re not putting anything potentially risky on your body. According to The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, some of the 7-free ingredients include flexible plastics in them, which can be absorbed through the skin when it's placed in cosmetics products. As you can imagine — that's not great for a healthy lifestyle.

According to Into the Gloss, DBP could have harmful effects on your body. “While there’s no conclusive research on humans, it’s enough of a concern that the European Union has banned the chemical from cosmetics and skincare and California targeted DBP as toxic for reproductive and developmental growth,” the publication states. Not only is it potentially dangerous for humans, the publication also points out that certain chemicals typically included in nail polish can have negative effects on the environment, as "formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and suspected environmental pollutant." On top of those, ColourPop's gone and left five more potentially harmful toxins out!

Hooray for nontoxic manicures! All six shades were in stock as of July 8 at 2 p.m. ET, so it's time to get shopping. ColourPop's not the only one offering 7-free polishes, either. Butter London, Smith & Cult and LVX are just a few brands who also offer non-toxic polishes.

Especially when they can look this good.

The nontoxic nature of these products only makes justifying spending money them easier.
