Happy Valentine's Day indeed! After tonight's episode, I have never been more sure that Coulson and May will end up together on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "Philinda" is happening, y'all! Unless, of course, the flirtation and this week's flashback scenes are setting us up for some kind of tragedy. In that case, you know where to find me. Please bring lots of wine.
Yes, it's weird that LMD May and now LMD Coulson are going to get more action right now than their real life, deserving counterparts. At least Coulson is in the Framework with May. However, Tuesday's episode revealed that the agents have toyed with having feelings for each other going on a decade.
In a flashback, we saw Phil and Melinda on assignment together in Russia pre-Iron Man. An assignment, in fact, that May requested to get out of a date with her future husband, Andrew. Seems she would rather spend time "working," I see. They joked about a time they went undercover as a couple, discussed the dangers of dating fellow agents, and even suggested that they give each other a shot if their civilian relationships didn't work out. Clearly, they were hesitant to act on their feelings at the time.
The flashback also revealed that May is the one responsible for Coulson's signature shades. He's too bad at bluffing, according to her. Cute! Fingers crossed that these two can escape the Framework and push the boat out for real. I've enjoyed their relationship since the beginning of this show, and clearly I didn't even know the half of it.
