Just days after Carrie Fisher days suffered a heart attack during a flight to Los Angeles, the woman who so famously played Star Wars' Princess Leia has passed away. As one of very few females in the Star Wars saga, Daisy Ridley — the actor who played Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens — looked up to the actor. In 2015, Fisher interviewed Ridley for Interview magazine. The two seemed to have a candid and sweet rapport and understanding of one another.

Now, Ridley has some profound words to say about Fisher. Ridley's reaction to Carrie Fisher's tragic death reminds us how lucky we are to have Fisher in our lives and on the big screen. The young actor released a statement saying: "Devastated at this monumental loss. How lucky we all are to have known her, and how awful that we have to say goodbye."

On Tuesday, Fisher died at the age of 60. On Behalf of Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement via People that reads:

It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.

For Interview magazine, Fisher asked Ridley, "So what actors do you like now? Besides me, of course." Ridley replied, "Of course you." She then sweetly added, "People have been asking me about crushes out of the original film, and I say you every time. They were like, 'Is there anyone you particularly look up to?' And I'm like, 'Well, Carrie, obviously.'" Ridley and, well, a lot of other young woman. Fisher was a role model for so many of us.

One of the last things Fisher said to Ridley in that interview, after they reminisced about how Fisher had paved the way for Ridley, was this: "You keep fighting against that slave outfit." And Ridley has, by playing Rey with grace and strength. Felicity Jones in the latest Star Wars spinoff Rogue One, carried that torch as well. But neither could have done it without the foundations that Fisher built. For that, we should be forever thankful.
