This one is for my all my fellow Hootie & the Blowfish fans. For those who never liked the '90s band or have no idea who they are... how dare you. How. Dare. You. On Sunday, South Carolina beat Florida, which placed the Gamecocks in March Madness' Final Four. It was a good day for all of their fans, including the former leader of Hootie. So much so that Darius Rucker cried over South Carolina's win. The famous country singer couldn't help but shed some tears when his home state and college won.
Thankfully, it was all captured on video for everyone to watch over and over again. You can laugh all you want, but the Gamecocks winning obviously means a lot to Rucker. It's an emotional moment for him, you know, just like when Monica, Ross, and Chandler saw Hootie in concert without Phoebe, Rachel, and Joey on Friends.
As for Rucker, he has no shame whatsoever for his tears. He spoke with Charleston's ABC News affiliate immediately after South Carolina's win and didn't even try to hide the fact that he was crying. "I mean, this is crazy, you know?" he said. He added later on, "To be here right now, a seventh seed going to the Final Four, you know. And these kids don't have the attitude we're going, they have the attitude we're going to win it and I love that."
What makes his tears all the better is that they resulted in a hilarious Hootie & the Blowfish-related hashtag. Do you remember their 1994 hit song "Let Her Cry"? Well now thanks to Rucker's tears, the hashtag "#LetHimCry" is circulating on Twitter. Does it get more perfect than that?
Whether its accompanying media or just text, #LetHimCry is now making its way around the internet. There are some users who have incorporated "let him cry" within in their tweets but did not make it a hashtag. I guess I can forgive them for that, because at least they were smart enough to react (or jump on the bandwagon) by making a play on the Hootie song.
There are also others tweeting about the "Wagon Wheel" singer's crying without the hashtag. You better believe that tweets are just as entertaining.
It doesn't appear Rucker has yet responded to everyone reacting to his tears or to the hashtag, but maybe he'll end up writing and recording a song because of it.
And with that, let's leave him to cry — you know, if he hasn't gotten over the excitement just yet.
